Re: Bought a Ty and made it back home!!!!

V-force or something chip, methanol spray with the gain dial cranked up to max, built motor, and, uhm, 72 pound injectors I believe.

Now, what's the first thing that will break.... I baby the transmission, no flooring it to downshift, no brake boost launches, well, 1-2 psi ;)

It must be an ultimate. Hey Huggles. Motormouth knows that truck really good.

Re: Bought a Ty and made it back home!!!!

I have never hit 60 mph faster in my life. I'm scared of trying a brake boosted launch, maybe I will launch it when my Supra is ready in case it breaks. I'm REALLY worried about busting the tranny or prop shaft right away!

For now I am going to roll on the throttle and only launch at 1-2 psi :) I don't have the money for a 4l80e yet...

Muwahhaah it's a MONSTER!!!!

Even without a brake boost launch it must hit 60 mph, hmm... around 4-5 seconds? I can't believe how that thing just goes.... nuts!

HOLY MOTHER OF ALL CREATURES GREAT AND SMALL

UPDATE!!!!!

So today I went to the NW Supra meet and showed up with my Ty, cursed my broken Supra sitting in the shop's parking lot while all the other Supra owners happily dyno well into the 600's and 700's, while mine blew up on the dyno making a pathetic 520 rwhp with twice the mods as the other cars. I felt like ass and wanted to pour gas on my Supra and light that son of a bitch on fire! I swear... seriously.... burn that POS....

...so to avoid going ballistic and lighting said POS on fire, I decided to do something positive and change my plugs. The girlfriend was wearing a low cut tank top with ample boobage, and she purposefully got greasy and dirty with me. She actually changed the passenger side plugs all by herself! woot! That was the first good thing about today. Well, second, boobage the first. One of the mechanics there checked the plugs that came out and said that it looked like the truck was running pretty rich, and that the timing on the engine was probably very conservative by the marks on the electrode. So then I got the truck all together and watched some dynos and socialized. After awhile I grew tired again of all the running Supras and decided to drop the girl off at work. On the way home I give it a few times and find that it's only putting out 10 psi. I figure it has to do with the boost controller so I didn't bother messing with it too much, I had it pushing 15 psi by the time I got her to work and that was it.

After I dropped her off, I went and filled up on 94 octane being the paranoid-of-detonation guy I am. Filled the methanol tank up full, and then proceeded to double check that the methanol was actually spraying, again. Ok, checked, it works. I get to a lonely stretch of road and slowly begin cranking up the boost using the controller. I only dared to crank it up to about 24 psi, but DAMN, did that bastard pull! Wow!!!!!!!!!!

Holy crap, Jer was right, this thing is positively SICK!!!!! Here I am, not brake-boosting it, and when I punch it from a stop the whole truck feels like it got kicked the ass and just LAUNCHES and GOES! DAMN! WOW! SHIT!!!! I have rode in a 475+/- hp AWD Talon that didn't move like this. ( and several other high HP AWD cars )

With the biggest grin on my face I decided it was in my best interest to drive home slowly, and I pulled onto one of the commuter routes in Vancouver and headed home. On the way home, I think all the planets aligned, stars crossed, and the Gods smiled upon me, and blessed me with a 96-98 GT Mustang sacrifice. Yes, it happened. On a divided part of a highway, with only 3-4 cars behind us and nobody in front and no pedestrians, I was given a red light. I nearly pissed myself with excitement. The highway goes from 3 lanes to 2, and the Mustang was in the 3rd lane, myself in the 2nd. This was destiny.

The light turned green, and time nearly came to a stop. I had been holding the brake lightly and been making 1-2 psi pressure on the gauge. The Mustang roared to life, but too little, too late. The Typhoon leaned back like Fat Joe and just jumped across the intersection. Hittjng full boost within a second or so, and by the time the Mustang was even across the intersection, the Ty was about 4-5 lengths ahead. I had barely hit the speed limit and it was all over. No contest, not even close. Of course the Mustang got behind me, and proceeded to Honda fly-by me and cut me off, but the damage was done. The Typhoon has ate the first unsuspecting Ford.

Damn.

Seriously.

Damn. This truck is everything I thought it would be, and more. I cannot believe how damn fast it is.

It's so fast it scares me a little. Especially with the sloppy steering, hehe. Damn. Damn. Damn.

Damn.

I'm torn. On one hand I'm happy that it's everything you wanted and then some. I didn't want to oversell it but I'm glad that you finally got a chance to open 'er up a little and see what it's got. I'm sure there was some doubt especially when you showed up Tuesday morning and I said that the plugs had just poo'd out and I didn't have a chance to change them prior to you taking delivery. Yeah... right.

But, I'm glad you trusted me and it all worked out and you even got your first Rustang kill right out of the gate when you talked endlessly about beating up on Mushtangs. I knew it was only a short period of time before you posted a kill story but I wasn't ready for it to be so soon. It's still a little fresh for me I guess.

That's where we get to the part about me being torn... I now know what MotorMouth felt like when he had to read me go on and on about this truck after getting it from him. This is what pain feels like. Man, I knew I would miss this truck and it's already here.

But, I knew when I decided to sell it that this was going to happen and the reason I decided to sell it is so someone else could enjoy it since it was just sitting in my garage collecting dust. I miss it but if I had it, I probably still wouldn't be driving it. I didn't even get a chance to drive it once I decided to sell it because I was paranoid that I would get in an accident or something.

Anyway, I'm glad you're stoked and I'm sure with time this will get easier reading these kind of posts as you tune it in and really start getting on it and *gasp* brake boosting. You've seen Playboy pics of Pamela Anderson but haven't even seen the famous videos yet if you haven't done the brake boosting and are already in love. There's SO much more to come my friend....

You have to tighten the steering. Does it wander from side to side on the highway? What did the supra guys think? I love it when guys dont know what a syty is. After you beat them across the intersection. It seems that they always tend to stay behind.
What plugs did you install?

The plugs are actually the A/C Delco #1's that came HIGHLY recommended by John Frey the owner of the INSANE TT Syclone here in town. I told him about how everyone seemed to love the UR* series of plugs and weren't big fans of the Delco's but he said otherwise. I decided to give them a shot as he obviously knew what he was talking about and putting them into action. Unfortunately I never got to drive the truck enough to wear out the UR6's I had in there and try these bad boys but that's what I gave to the new owner to to change them out with as soon as he got home. Sounds like they are every bit as bad ass as Mr. Frey said so I would suggest others try them as well. Huggles, you might want to try these and then the UR6's just to make sure that you aren't getting the true performance out of this truck. It's possible that you're amazed with it and the UR6's would be even better. Did you gap them at .027-.028?

It sure as shit will but will end up painting four black stripes for about 300' of you do that. On a prep'd surface (1/4 mile) I found that it was happiest at about 14psi or so on those all season tires. Anything more would spin too much. Get some sticky meats on there and a new prop shaft (Gilbert) and see what it's really got out of the hole... you know... if 3 seconds is too tame for you.

Ultimate V9 is the chip. You don't need the methanol maxed out either.... 2:00-3:00 should be fine for that, especially with higher oct fuel. Otherwise you're just running rich which will lower power and use up more fuel. Lean is mean... to a certain extent obviously. Injectors are 50#'ers and with the supplemental fuel added by the methanol (130 octane worth) will be MORE than enough unless you go to a GT42R and start making shit tons of power. Even then I would go with more methanol injection before I added more fuel. That's me though... I'm comfortable with methanol as a fuel when many others would rather spend thousands of dollars on fuel systems to support those power levels.

Re: Bought a Ty and made it back home!!!!

Hey Jer, (or any Supra guru) a quick question: What is the average price/value for a MKII ('82-early '86) Supra in good condition? I've been toying with the idea of getting one someday, after driving my friends (6cyl & 5 speed), I fell in love with it, then he sold it.:(

Huggles- Glad to hear the truck is scaring the crap outta ya! Take a friend for a ride, and be sure to get a picture of their face after a launch. Sounds like one bad ass Ty!

Well well well, sounds like I need to get a GT35R and then invite you up for a rip ;)

Ya man, I felt like crying when I got rid of my S2000, what a weird feeling. Like losing a pet or something. Was something I HAD to do, like shooting Old Yeller. Having two 2 seater cars was just a headache and a hassle. Want to go out with more than 1 friend? Grocery shopping? Buy something bigger than a PC-case? Good luck... haha.

Now, I have balance! I am complete.... until my tranny is in two pieces. ;)

We'll see if the tranny can take the current abuse before I upgrade the turbo, hehe

Just FYI, I put alot of time and thought into that set up. That turbo was designed for street racing to work with the stock converter. Anything bigger and a higher stall converter is going to be needed.

A GT35R should spool every bit as quick as the current setup and be good for at least another 100hp if not more. If he did decide to go larger I put a HUGE tranny cooler in there as well as a SPAL high performance fan to help keep the tranny nice and cool even with a higher stall for street driving. If he wants to, I think that truck is ready for the next step but the way it sits now I doubt he'll need/want to do that for some time until one of those Pony cars throws a 250shot of NOS on to compete and he needs to be faster. Even then, they can't even come close to touching you out of the hole. They would need a half mile to reel you back in with the lead you'll throw down out of the gate.
