I wouldn't use it on the cladding.
Make sure you keep the surface wet with that detailer spray, otherwise you'll have a mess with clay stuck to the paint.

Clay bar is a biatch to use on a Syclones single stage paint.........I'd invest in a good buffer with foam pads!

^^^^^that's what i've used for years and it's a great investment that you'll use over and over...

If you look it up on youtube theres at least one good video on how to do it. (A lot easier than me trying to type a tutorial). Once you feel the difference side by side youll be amazed!

I prefer wool pads over the foam. They dont heat up as much (added safety from burning clearcoat/paint) and they run a bit smoother too. On the downside though, they do shed like a biotch when you first use them. But I do use foam for light polishing, and applying glazes/waxes.

use the matching meguiars quick detailer to keep the surface wet and lubricated.

I wash twice then claybar then wax.

The claybar is an extremely fine "abrasive" that will remove contaminants from the top layer of your paint.
Treat it like a rubbing compound and don't push too hard or make all your strokes in the same direction..

Keep turning and kneading the claybar to keep the surface clean and try not to get any pieces of debris in it.
If you drop it on the ground pick out ALL the chunks before you touch it to paint.
I keep a paper plate nearby to set mine on while I am moving along.

A little tip that I learned was to actually pull the clay bar appart into a few pieces. Stretch it out to the size you want, and go at it. This helps to get the maximum use out o fthe claybar, and if you drop a piece you can just throw it out and grab another. But it all come down to personal preference. If I drop clay I dont even bother putting it back up to the paint.

no point in using on on unpainted cladding.

Use the black magic or any petroleum based shiny stuff on cladding.
I have used straight silicon oil on a rag too!
We use 100% silicon oil for the fusers on our laser printers and it is the best damn tire shine shit Ive ever seen!

Re: Bought Clay bar today how do i use this correctly

My suggestions is to do a complete detail from claying to polishing to wax. My brother and I do professional detailing and are located in NJ. If you want I can post some pics of my Typhoon that we did or some exotics like Lamborghini's and Porsche's. We don't mess around. If you want it to look like brand new, I would definately recommend it. If not, and you still want to do it yourself here's what I would do. To get rid of any wax that is on the truck, wash it in P21S autowash. This will remove any wax that is on the truck. Then clay the whole truck. Then rewash the truck with the P21S autowash. If you want to polish it out with a buffer, use Menzerna polishes, they are the best. If you aren't going to polish it out, then I would apply Black Wow to the cladding, awesome stuff, and put a good wax on the truck. If you need any more information, don't hesitate to ask. Good luck!!!

if your paint is a perfect as mine is and has not any scratches the clay bar will scratch the paint,if its a daily driver it will work fine, just be carefull then again not many people know the right way to take care of black.

my paint is poor, trying to give it some life. cladding looks poor too, trying to make the truck look its best when it does see the streets now and then

Re: Bought Clay bar today how do i use this correctly

I work in a body shop and we deal with many high end cars there, some of them black. We use a clay bar called clay magic made by auto magic, it is pricey, about $50 with a gallon of liquid. I am not sure if it is easily available to the public. This is the best we have used, we have had people come in off the street with $60,000 - $70,000 cars that had paint work done at other body shops. They would have paint overspray on many of their panels, and the clay magic works perfectly. Although even it will leave small scratches that will have to be waxed out. The syclone I just bought needed a little tlc and I used meguiers NXT generation wax, it makes the panels look deep and glossy, but you need to rub the wax in a strait line, and make sure the panels are clean. Whatever you choose, good luck!

That wax is amazing! Josh's Syclone looked to me like it had received a new paint-job even though the truck still sports the original paint.

With any synthetic wax (polymer based) like NXT it doesn't have to be applied in a straight line, just make sure the wax cures before you wipe it off. I apply it thinly and let it sit for about 30 minutes. Make sure the paint is cool and is in the shade or garage when you do apply the wax. After 30-40 minutes you can wipe the synthetic wax off, whichever you buy. Synthetic waxes are good and last a long time, but I absolutely love carnuba waxes if the car or truck is a garage queeen. Good luck with whichever method you choose.

Re: Bought Clay bar today how do i use this correctly

Wow, strange stroke of coincidence. 5 days ago I started heavily working on the finish of my truck, fixing paint chips, polishing dull panels, and waxing. I was down to the bottom of my Meguiar's Gold Class and wanted to try something new. Did 1hr internet research and found the Meguiar's NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0 to be the "best of the mass-produced waxes". Really wanted to give a polymer-based synthetic a try.

Bought it at Advance Auto for $16. Come home to find my local hot rod club is talking about a Clearance Wal-Mart has for a Meguiar's detailing Package with a ton of stuff INCLUDING the NXT Tech Wax all for only $12! (Less than I paid for the wax alone) So you guys might want to check and see if your Wal Marts have any left. I'm not sure if it's the "2.0" (WTF?) wax in that package, or not.

So far I only did the cladding and 1 test panel of the paint. The NXT wax seems to have a great shine and it looks and applies very similar to standard wax. I only left it on for 3-5 minutes (until it turned whitish and looked dry). What's the difference if I had waited 30+ minutes? Maybe I'll go back and try redoing a panel for longer and compare? Hope to find out the best method before I wax the entire truck in the next few days.

2.0 seems to be the latest buzzword... "web 2.0" bla bla bla. I think it's because it's better than 1.0... kinda like how some amps "go to 11"
