Bravada Disc Brakes

I found a 97 Bravada in the junkyard and it has a disc brake rear end. From searching, it looks like the brakes will bolt up to the Sy. Confirmation? Is there anything else I should grab besides the brake assemblys? Proportioning valve? It has a swaybar if any Ty owners need one. I found 3 hydroboost units, so I will grab one for me and can get some for anyone else.
I am going back with tools tomorrow.

Re: Bravada Disc Brakes

yeah, they should bolt right up. I would grab the parking brake cables also. Although, if it's a bravada it may well have a 3.42 posi in it if you need one

Re: Bravada Disc Brakes

Some year Bravadas came with 3.73's (I know that was the only ratio available for '99)

Take a hard look at the brake setup. I know GM changed to a larger rotor and 2 piston caliper, but not sure when during the 2nd gen production run. I thought it was '98, but it might have been earlier. Make sure you're not swapping to the same stuff you've got already.....

If it does have the 2 piston calipers, you might grab the knuckles too...I think they're different than the 1st gen ones.....

If you are talking about the fronts here is the dual piston caliper compared to our stock. If you do grab the front dual piston stuff you will need the spindle, rotor, and caliper.

Y'know, I feel like an idiot.....

I read the original post and for some unknown reason thought he was talking about rears....

I've got a 99 Bravada, and here's what I can tell you:
1.) Front brakes are too small for a V8....Turbo V6 would be in the same or worse condition (and that's with the 2 piston front calipers). I'm sure the 2 piston calipers and associated brakes would be a step up over the older smaller disc, but I don't think its enough, personally. It needs ALOT more brake....

2.) Those rear discs are expensive. I ended up having to replace some parts when I bought the truck to get everything fully functional, and those things are more $$$ than the C5 or F-body brakes (both of which are bigger). However they do fit in stock wheel sizes and are a bolt on affair which I don't think can be said for some of the other potential upgrades. And on the plus side, rear brakes do alot less work, so they're not nearly as important.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do....
