Re: Broke ANOTHER shifter cable..Cant believe it!!

nevermind the pictures....im going to go ahead and make a good faith effort and offer you a replacement shifter cable for $50 plus shipping
icon_biggrin.gif
no warranty
im loosing alot of money on the cable at that price, but im a sy/ty fanatic, and support my fellow members, and thier rides.
icon_wink.gif

just send me back the damaged one so i can get a really good look at it please.
icon_biggrin.gif

i know you are way out of warranty, but i want to make this right in my mind, (would bug me that one broke, even on a fluke, and i didn't remedy the situation) so im gonna offer you this deal to get you back on the road
Ok.gif

last time i looked, this was your daily driver right??

on a side note, i have studied the pictures, and i DO think you have some sort of grounding issue going on in your truck.
icon_frown.gif

the pics suggest the sheathing got hot, and was weakened by voltage over time.

you dont happen to have a "system", or some subs with an amp do you???
that would cause some serious draw in the ground deparment.

also, when you went air to air, you didn't move any of the ground's that are on the back of the radiator support, by the headlights, or the one from the frame to the radiator support on the pass side front??

6 cables plus, in this short a time frame suggests something has to be wrong.

i really hope you get this nailed down,....i know how fustrating this can be!!

I really think this might be a grounding issue like already posted.

Yeah I have a system, ground to the body at the back seat(amps). As far as the A2A part goes, I dont remember having to relocate any groudn at all. It is my daily driver, it sucks when you have to park either on a hill or drive parking spaces everywhere you go but luckily I have all the shifter stuff left over from my parts TY, I threw everything on last night and it all works great, for now. If there was a bad ground like everyone thinks, would I be bale to put a voltmeter on the cable and pick up current?

You know Clint, you dont have to take it in the ass on this, I am frustrated about it yeah but not at you, I bought the cable knowing it had a 1 year warranty and like I said before, the cable looked damn stout so I dont expect any special treatment, although $50 would be nice, is it possible to just buy the cbale itself? If so, Ill need a few months cause Im short on cash at the moment so just as long as you can get one or have one laying around Ill get with you later and pick up anotehr one. Gies me time to see if I really do have a grounding issue I guess and plus I have a cable in there that works great for now. So the end the broke was the end that goes to the shifter under the cup holder. My other cables have always just had the inner cable snap.

x2. That really looks melted. It can't imagine that you shift that fast...

Throw an extra braided ground strap between the motor/trans and the firewall.

*EDIT*
Better yet, test it... hook the cable to the trans end, and take your DVM on a current setting and put it between the other end of the cable and the shifter. If there's current flowing, the meter will show it.

I see his post about ecm and coil ground problems also. Starting to see a trend here.

You know its funny that you mention that, I just took one off that I had installed going from the motor to the frame because I had had an issue last time I put a motor in that turned out to be something else. I just left it there all this time because it was a PITA to pull off, this was about two weeks ago. Ill put it back on.

I have redundant ground straps from the frame to the body, frame to the motor, and motor to firewall.

Curious... do you have a battery relocate? If so, where does your ground cable go to?
(Ie, battery to frame, frame to engine?)

I do have a relocate, it goes to the front of the passenger side cylinder head.

Should also loop to the body and frame if that is your only ground to the battery.
I'm like Dig, seen way too many weird electrical problems through the years due to ground issues. Hell just ask any body that has pulled thier hair out on MG's, Jag's or any of the British cars. Our trucks are bad but Jesus those things take the cake. Burned cables, "ghosting" nuts and bolts welded together from grounds looking for a path.... all kinda crap just due to bad / missing grounds.

Old stero installer's motto.... the neg. is actually more important than the pos.!
