Broken Ty

NHSTE - I'm the only one!
So, I have been at the Coast Guard Academy since July 03, and haven't been on the boards. As most of you know, I had just finished my truck before I left. Well, had about 1000 miles on it, still working on tuning and so forth. July 2 I decided to take the truck for a spin, and guess what happened? Did a launch, about 3psi on the line, then 1st - 2nd shift at about 5k rpm = broken output shaft. bad news at 11pm, in the middle of nowhere. Took until 1:30am to get a flat bed. Then got home, to find out the truck wouldn't roll backward. Dragged it off with my truck. Then I had to go to school. What I have heard is that I broke the output shaft and 2 planetaries afterwards. So, i upheld the "straight from break in to broken" tradition. :rotf: ... it is being fixed as we speak

When the transmission shop replaces the output shaft, use a 4x4 outshaft, they are stronger

same thing that happedned to mine, i ended up pulling the drive shaft and having towed by a reg tow truck, he tried to pull the truck up backwards onto the flat bed and i stopped him when the tires began to skip...good luck on getting it back on the road.

They're using a Raptor hardened shaft (input and output). I also smashed 2 planetaries and a bunch of bearings because the shaft got shoved forward into the case. I knew it was coming  ... as soon as I saw the torque numbers on the dyno I started crossing my fingers

Sadly, I'm, nearing the end of my liberty so I am signing off. I've got to be back on board tonight by 2400 hours... probably going back at about 2200. That way I can get some more libo tomorrow  I'll be back online regularly starting about the 20th this month :woot:

Personally, I don't know why you are staying on the THM 700-R4 boat. I can understand folks who have too much money in their accounts and/or enjoy bragging about breaking things wanting to. When my transmission goes, it's 4L80E all the way.

Make the conversion now or pay for it later :2cents: ...

Lets see I tell people to stop buying parts and tune what they have. Then I design the parts to make a built it once and be done tranny.

Not sure I could be a politician or door to door salesmen.

Dude, that sucks. Hope you get it fixed in time for NATS :?
Me, have time for NATS? No such luck. My schedule involves a whole lot of school / military stuff and very little leave time. I am not sure how much time it's going to be down but my dad has taken over care of my truck for the next 4 years. That is really the only reason I'm sticking with the 700 for now is that I am not going to be able to devote the time needed to convert it right now. If I break it again I will be switching, but the new output shaft should hold. :knockonwood:
