i removed his pic per his request.

Thank you Mike for acknowledging the owners request. I havent read the entire thread, and while some of it is funny and truthful. A lot has been very rude, to the owner.

I really think this got way out of hand. And would have liked to see the members of syty.net try to help the owner out. I do think they made some huge mistakes in the new setup, but this isnt the first time a syty has been neglected and not being able to run. They just didnt have the support or information on things to look at and fix before tearing it down.

Then, perhaps an invitation for Bubba and I to join you on the forum for a very polite and open discussion about how the decision was made by the owner to pursue the path that was taken and the way Bubba put the assembly together so it would run reliably and meet the customers budget would shed some light and new technical information and build knowledge to those who have slandered Bubba so unjustly. The new knowledge they may learn could be of use to them in their careers or useful down the line some day so they could benefit from it.

Tom/Jonathan (aka "Bubba"): Wisdom is knowing when to say "I don’t know.", "I need help.", "I’m sorry.", "I was wrong."

We can apologize till we're blue in the face, but you won't win any argument here by professing Jons "technical prowess". We have innumerable "big dogs" here who've shown how to go fast. They know what works and what doesn't. When someone here says something (from experience) about a improperly thought out setup not working, it's because it won't.

For example: Your blow-through carb setup is being highly ridiculed for it's lack of completeness and wholesale haphazardness. People here have such setups, but it took work and knowledge. If you (Tom), said "Hey, we'll cop to screwing up a FI carb'd setup. We fixed it with some input from some knowledgeable people", it'd go a long way towards any good will from this group. I'm sure the number of broken pistons/ cranks/ valves that this group has seen could make a mountain of good intentions.

Jeffrey: We welcome you as an owner, to enjoy the knowledge this site possesses. We're like an family, we argue, we bait each other, we pull together when needed. Any family on Earth is like this. When we see work that is felt to be substandard, people here don't let that shit slide. We encourage you to participate in this, but know that it'll mean leaving preconceived notions at the door. We're friendly, we're entertaining, and we're the only site for these loveable wrecks.

Truthful, cordial, and very well said.

Did you post this on their Facebook page as well as here?

I personally didn't read anything negative about the owner (I admittedly haven't read 100% of this). What references I saw to the owner was that he was again being taken advantage of, and that we should try to help him out.

Everything negative I saw was directed towards Bubba and his red-neck GMC didn't know WTF they were doing approach, and the way that he removed components that had a purpose just because it looked cluttered (or he didn't understand their true purpose).

The entire thing smells like bullshit. This guy is one of Bubba's buddies. The end.

It went from "Didn't have enough money..." to "Bubba you're the best! Lets lets paint the ****er while we're at it!"

I don't know much, but I do know that VA's Criminal and Civil records are all online, and it doesn't take a brilliant scientist to see that Bubba has been in enough trouble to make me question anything he's involved in.

This truck will be a pile. It will blow up, and the owner will be left holding a worthless truck that isn't worth a penny. It's only a shame if he really "don't know Bubba." If he does, well then you let a dog **** you and you get fleas... or something like that.

Seems they're no strangers to controversy...

Bankruptcy filing 2010

Was trying to google Bubba's East Coast and the bankruptcy link was at the top of the results. Will try and find the tv show.

Good stuff!

"Well their bankruptcy notice finally came through discharging all their debts and responsibilities. Amazing how they can once again screw people like that and still stay in business. That is doing it bubba style!!!!" :rotf: That's good stuff too!

This thread has always been about Bubba's hack job to me. Regardless of what the owner has said, this is about a doucher that thinks he's too good to even think there may be a possibility that he doesn't know how to do something. The owner had the wool pulled over his eyes by a used car salesman. Bubba and his whole crew are dipshits. I'm sure we've all thought of converting our SyTys in some way. I've definitely thought about an LS conversion the last couple months since my Ty still isn't running right. The owner was in a situation where he's put all kinds of time and money into his truck and this is where it ended up, and he got fooled by Bubba. We all know it, even if the owner doesn't... yet.

If you ever would like to be ripped off, please go to Bubbas East Coast Rods and Customs on 50. I took my 1970 Pontiac GTO down to bubbas and they charged me 20 grand to revamp the interior and do an exterior restoration and the seats were busting at the seams and torn.. the carpet was not even tacked down properly and had some kind of adhesive stuck all over the outside of it.

The paint had severe bubbles and waves in it, they only wet sanded the quarters and didnt even finish sanding the edges of the fenders, it looks like a 2 year old did the work.

They will not give me a refund or fix the work they did!!! BEWARE OF THEM PEOPLE SERIOUSLY!! THEY ARE NIGHTMARE!! Especially the shop manager TOM!! HE WILL CON YOU OUT OF YOUR MONEY AND LIE TO YOUR FACE!!

Went to get an estimate from these guys for a TA I am restoring. They quoted me $35,000 just for the body work. All he talked about was the TV show. Must have mentioned it 7 to 10 times in the 15 mins. I was there. Needless to say I found another place that is doing the work.

I'll Stick to the facts not state this individual is a liar...
He saw the car and the gauges before the work began and his last statement just goes to prove what they actually think of customer service "Did I mention it was on a 4 door Taurus with a fake roof scoop!" So it apparently matters what kind of car you drive has to what level of service they provide! shouldn't matter if its a Taurus, yugo, or 64 Chevy Nova....
thank you for PROVING MY POINT Sir

Sorry there is not a rating lower than 1 star!

So I ordered custom made gauge insert for my vehicle and two aftermarket gauges (air\fuel & fuel pressure)
Original estimate quoted me $200-$300 for installation of all three
So after he was done my bill came to $600?!
WTF
then proceeds to tell me the fuel pressure gauge wont work (my car has a plastic fuel line) True
however when he installed my gauge inserts he screwed my gas gauge up so it was a 1\4 tank off!
and WITHOUT READING THE INSTRUCTIONS TO THE GAUGES WHICH I PROVIDED HIM!
He peeled the black backing off them totally destroying $60 gauge faces....
the final insult was the worst Wiring job I have ever seen when install a simple hook up wire to my O2 sensor.....
All this for $600
He offered to make it right or correct his installer mistakes once I pointed out the directions to him. but really you screwed up my car once what the hell makes you think I'm going to let you do it again?

Comment from Garrett W. of Bubbas East Coast Rods & Customs 7/29/2010 « Hide

The quote that was originally given to this customer was over the phone and it was explained that without seeing the car and having a full understanding of what needed to be done that it was only a quote. He/she stated that the final bill came to $600 which is true but did not say that the price change was due to the addition of the air fuel ratio and fuel pressure gauges. Additionally, it was the price that was agreed to before ANY work began and their signature on the work order acknowledges that. Did I mention this was on a 4 door Taurus with a fake hood scoop?

This is the guy he's responding to:

Sidenote: Bubba's East Coast Rods & Customs filed for bankruptcy November 2010, and in March of 2011 it was finalized. They screwed (apparently) 2 people out of money stemming from pending lawsuits.

Re: Bubba's hacked up ****ery on some poor guys Typhoon

It seems to me that this should be posted on plenty of other boards as well. The more we dig the more crap we find that needs to be exposed to as many people as possible. The owner/s are obvisouly complete hacks and are only out there to scam as many people as possible before moving on to the next bankrupt company. Guys like this are what gives good repair shops bad names. The fact that they refuse to have anything that isn't a complete glowing positive endorsement of the anointed Bubba on the websites they control is their decision, but they can't control what other sites say. I wonder what the BBB thinks of them?

^ In all honesty, the BBB is a joke really.
So long as the company replies, they generally just close the case. And notice how they never allow you to go back and see what the complaints were.

BBB is a mixed bag...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Better_Business_Bureau

In 2010 ABC's 20/20 reported in a segment titled "The Best Ratings Money Can Buy" about the irregularities in BBB ratings.[22] They reported that a man created two dummy companies which received A+ ratings as soon as he had paid the membership fee. They also reported that business owners were told that the only way to improve their rating was by paying the fee. In one case a C was turned to an A immediately after a payment and in another case a C‑minus became an A+. Chef Wolfgang Puck said that some of his businesses receive F's because he refuses to pay a fee. Ritz Carlton, which does not belong either, also receives Fs for not responding to its complaints.[21]

In response, the president of the Council of Better Business Bureaus has stated the BBB ratings system will cease awarding points to businesses for being BBB members.[23] The national BBB's executive committee took several steps to address the public’s perception of the ratings system. The BBB ratings system no longer gives additional points to businesses who pay accreditation fees. They also implemented a system to handle complaints about BBB sales practices and conducted a review of their accreditation process and instituted a strict, uniform, minimum Accreditation Processes.[24]

In Canada, the CBC News reported in 2010 that Canadian BBBs were downgrading the ratings scores of businesses who stopped paying their dues. For example, a moving business who had an A rating and had been a BBB member for 20 years, dropped to a D‑minus rating when they allegedly no longer wanted to pay dues.[25]

BBBs have been accused of unduly protecting companies. If a branch does not act reasonably on behalf of a consumer, a complaint may be filed with the Federal Trade Commission. However, recent reports have suggested that the Austin chapter of the Better Business Bureau refused to resolve complaints against companies if customers do not pay a $70 mediation fee.[26]

The key thing for me, is that *anytime* someone complains, they are immediately called a liar, and accused of trying to tarnish their reputation. Then they usually have the MO of making personal attacks, usually resorting to childish behavior.

Not. Trustworthy. At. All.
