Re: Building a powerful, effiecient, problemless 4.3L turbo

Yeah. He was one of the guys who told me to do the 4.3L. But he also said that I should might think about a 350 or 327. He has rebuilt a SyTy motor before, but I dont know if he is comfortable with it. Ill still keep every idea in mind. Keep letting me know. oh and by the way, if you did not know about my truck, I just got it, and it only has a 2.8L stock motor in it, and i want to go bigger. Yeah, embarrassing. But i just got rid of my Grand Prix for this...

I'd say go the V8 route....Now if you want a carbed v8, LT1, or an LSx is up to you. Carbed is cheapest....LT1 can be done relatively inexpensive but take alittle more knowledge to swap compared to the carbed SB. LSx is gonna be your most difficult and most expensive of the three.

I suppose you could use a 5.3 vortec LSx. But I don't really get why people go with the 5.3 when they could do an LT1 for the same or cheaper and have an engine with more potential. I think it is mostly do to the whole idea right now that the LSx motor is the be all end all motor for some reason or another.

Either way...don't let internet BS'ers tell you that you have to buy an Lsx motor or it will be slow...they are retarded.

Now don't get me wrong, LSx motors are great and I'm definately not bashing them...I own one afterall. I just hate listening to people on the internet with the mind set that the lsx is somehow betetr than any other motor.

Anyways,
good luck!

Re: Building a powerful, effiecient, problemless 4.3L turbo

See, the problem with me getting a V8 would require me to either become extremely rich, or find another car to drive around. I wanted the 4.3L Turbo because it gets a little better mpg. Yes, I need to look at them until winter. Once winter comes, I'm getting another car hopefully to beat around. Other than that, my truck is going to be my primary. But, I still have time to figure some stuff out, but keep letting me know. I am leaning towards the 350 and making a 383 stroker out of it, and getting another car, but I want to avoid another car for now. Anyways, let me know!

BWAAHHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA.....*breath*.........BWAAHHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHA

If you base this decision of which motor to get on mpg, you've seriously picked the wrong hobby. None of those combos will get more than 15-16mpg (most are realistically 10-12mpg builds) around town running on 93.

Get a daily driver before you do anything else.

Re: Building a powerful, effiecient, problemless 4.3L turbo

Our Sy has a ZZ4 crate motor in it, and flies along pretty well. I would recommend it for your application, since its pretty simple to get running. Throw on a 650 cfm Edelbrock carb with electric choke, some headers, and wire it up, and your set. Keeping the secondaries closed, the milage was pretty good, considering the AWD and the nature of the engine. If I weren't so hellbent on returing our truck to stock (68K miles on 'er), I'd keep the V8 - simple to work on, nice sound, and goes like a raped ape.

Well......if you wanna talk about MPG.....my truck with an LS1 in it gets alot better mileage than my v6 ever did....

Does anyone know of an LS1 site that I could look for motor/parts?

What would be a good turbo for a beginner, but yet powerful. I want my truck to be quick, but I dont want so much power that i do not know what to do with it.

Re: Building a powerful, effiecient, problemless 4.3L turbo

Alright, so I have priced parts for my motor (4.3L Turbo) and right now, it is set at 3500. Not bad, but i still have to get more parts. I really would like to know what turbo would be good for me. Like in my previous post, I want something powerful and quick,. but I dont want something that puts out too much power that I can't handle it.

I was pullin 28mpg in my LS1 WS6 (6 speed) on the highway, and around 23 in the city.

:rotf: you wont come close to that with a 4.3L turbo.

Re: Building a powerful, effiecient, problemless 4.3L turbo

If I could go back in time I would ditch the 4.3L from the typhoon and I would have went with an LSx engine, then turbo'd it later if I wanted to go real fast. I still kinda want to, only way I could do it now would be to sell my engine/computer/harness...want to buy it?

What parts do you have picked out for your motor build? That is a TON better to chose a turbo from than "I want something quick, but not too much power"

Power is made in the tune. Bolting all that hardparts togethor will only get you so far. A bad tune is the difference between managable on the street, and a PIA.....It's also the difference between mid 11's, and high 10's IMO.

Its more like the difference between low 13's and low 11's..

Depends on the hard parts. But the low 13's and high 11's is certainly a valid example.

Local guy has the hard parts for high 10's, but won't let us get at the tune long enough to go any faster than mid 11's :(

Be careful big John B.(the B stands for BIG) Nesbeth outweighs you by 120 lbs+++.

Maybe thats why he can't get out of the 11's?!?!?!

At any rate, and somewhat back on topic. Problemless 4.3 can be had for semi-cheap if you get a newer vortec block, toss a small turbo on there, and get someone to make you a custom tune.

I still think putting an LSx or LTx engine in there will be the price/performance leader for you.

I think I am going to go with an LS1 but i need to find it. I like that idea better than the 4.3L turbo
