Bulletproof 700r4

I never thought I'd see the day, but IMO the bulletproof 700r4 exists!

Any OG SyTyer who has been around awhile knows the trials and tribulations that I have experianced with my trans. It has broken a few times. :rotf:

Anyways, the last time it "broke" was the R&D oppourtunity of a lifetime, because I immediately pulled it and minimized the damage. It had all the best stuff in it,and upon inspection by the builder jwaller one thing was found. Everything in the trans was MINT,except for the small sprag. It had broke.

John installed a custom cryo treated sprag in it,and it's been tits since.Going on 2 years.Daily driven.

I beat my truck like a rented mule.It makes decent power.I don't worry aboot the trans anymore.

I launched it today on a damp road, and it spun all the way through 2nd gear.

SWEET.

My friend *thought* that he had a "bulletproof" 700-R4 too. It didn't do so well...

Nothing against Wallyworld but I have $10 that says Jimmy will break his trans before the Nats.

:)

Now where's my paperclip...

Good for you Jimmy!
I've been doing that to the sprags for a little over two years. Long before anyone else. Unfortunately, it's not bulletproof. You CAN flip the element, but the clutch hub won't break apart like the stockers will. Still gotta be careful on the downshifting. That's where it'll flip. A LOT less likely to happen if you use a stock 2nd servo(I've had guys get their truck sideways with a stock syty 2nd servo). Again, very good deal, for you Jimmy

I've got one of the really early "mechanical diode" sprags, and it's been hard to kill thus far.
Do they still make 'em? I haven't seen one advertised for years...

Re: Bulletproof 700r4

"Bulletproof 700R4" thats an oxymoron.

Like everything else, its not a matter of if, but when.

But im glad to hear it been going good, it gives some hope to the guys that dont want to do a 4L80E swap.

They quit making them. They would wear a lot in most cases and develope a lot of slop leading to vibration.

Thanks.

Is that on a forced downshift,or just romping on it and it automatically shifting down?
