Camaro Update:

I've been doing a Camaro Hybrid with a 87 Buick GN engine in it. I'd built the car for a customer 4yrs ago with a GN engine/200R4. The car went 1.48 60' with 6psi off the foot brake and 10.92@123mph on pump gas through the mufflers on DOT's.

I did several things different when I bought the car from him. I put in a used TH400 trans with a trans brake and 3500 converter I got from a guy in FL.
I used a 76GTQ turbo (used) from a guy in TX. Ported (used) GN1 heads.
Champion intake/plenum and 70mm throttle body.
I ran the IC pipes through the core support so I can use the stock hood and miss all the heat that would get on the pipes if they went in back of the fans from the radiator.
A used 200.00 Intercooler from a turbo mustang guy. I think almost everything but the intake and throttle body was found on TurboBuick.com. I could not have put this back together with out the guys there selling good used parts!

Anyway, I went up to US131 Martin MI for some test-tune. I found out real quick that I needed to open up the exhaust wastegate housing hole because I could not go below 19-20lbs of boost. I had a drivers side header leak as well. I knew I'd have alot of tuning and bugs to work out of the car.
Best pass of the night was leaving the line at 4psi on the foot brake 1.94 60' 11.53@123mph. I rememberd one time to recored the pass. The AFR was 11.7 through 1st gear and I shifted at 5300rpm in 2nd gear AFR went in the 9's for the rest of the pass.
I backed 8degrees of timing out before making a second pass due to the boost being high.
It didn't hit knock as the timing stayed steady the entire pass.
First pass was 11.71@118 letting out after seeing the boost gauge at 20.
The next day I moved the timing up where I foot brake the car and was able to make 13psi before launching. Felt ALOT different. I think once I get a clean 11.5-11.7 AFR pass and a good foot brake lanuch it'll run in the 10s. Then I'll hook up the Transbrake once I get a feel for the car and the tune is closer.
When I get it in the mid 10's dialed in I think I'll leave it alone and enjoy it. It's been 9yrs since I've had a car that I've built for myself. I honestly just love driving it around. I must be getting old saying that stuff. I also need to go back to drag racing 101 school. I felt like I'd never raced! Nervice and forgetting to data log passes... Arrrr.
Here's a few pics.
I know it's not a Sy/Ty... but it's in the GM family. ;)

Re: Camaro Update:

did you do the IC piping in the core support? If so real nice, I really like any plans to bring the front down a little? some 4 cyl springs might help with the launch too (not that it needs it)

Looks slick!

I like the plain jane camaro look, well minus the meats you'd never think it was FAST.

So is the Buick v6 lighter than the old 305 or whatever came out>?
Maybe thats why it looks like its about to lift off. ;)

Re: Camaro Update:

Thanks alot !!!

When I put the car together for Paul (previous owner) I fell in love with the dang thing. I loved that it was just that... Plain.. no cowl, wild paint or anything. I plan on going back though the body this winter as it has several garage scars from being here and at his place.

Epix... it's very very quiet... low rumble but sounds Nothing like a GN at all. On the rear bumper it still has the sticker that says "2.8L multi port fuel injection" Lol... I'd like to just change the 2 to a 3 so it'd at least be accurate on engine size.

I'd like to set the front end down just a touch maby 1/2-1" from where it is now. The rear stance is dead on. It launced great when he had it. 1.48's with no tire spin and no tires lifting off the ground.
It's the last design of rear suspension I made for that body style. I use South Side lift bars under the car with a set of QA1 coil overs in back of the rear end. Eliminate the stock lower controll arms.
It's a 9" ford rear end with 35spline axels,3:50 gears Detroit locker and a nodular center section.
I've got to put on a billet yoke for the pinion side. For some reason it wants to put alot of pressure on the U joint. The one I pulled out after Paul raced it for a few years was getting chewed up. I don't want that to happen to this one and loose a shaft.

Thanks again for the nice comments... I didn't think many would like the plane Jane look of the car as I do. I guess I'm not the only weird one! (don't tell anyone but I like wagons too) I've got a 67 Chevelle wagon that I'm planning on finishing... Some day... lol.

Very nice sleeper. Do not change the 2.8 to 3.8 as you'll let the cat out of the bag...for those who look for "signs" it's been modded. Not that the DR's are invisible.

This is a older picture just before I got it running. It's been raining here non stop for the last several days. I drove it home last night when there was a small break in the weather but drove here this morning in the rain

It won't quit raining around here!!!! I snapped this this morning but it's so cloudy :(

I installed line lock yesterday and plan on putting in the Shift light and trans-brake switch today. The window net is next. Along with a few other to-dos. Fun fun... :rotf:
