Can this turbo (TD06H-20G) be stock replacement?

Based on what I have read, it's a direct bolt-in replacement...but what else would I require to have it run properly (i.e. injectors, etc.)?

Reason I ask is there's a guy selling a Ty locally for a great price with only 85k+ miles and states it needs the turbo replaced...Just wondering if upgrading to this model above would be a reasonable idea...

If not, how much would it be to get a stock replacement turbo?

thanks,
JC

The average 20g that fits a sy/ty (there are tdo6h-20g turbos that don't fit us) uses a 14cm exhaust housing. This will require a higher stall converter to still be able to do a good launch, a 12 or 10cm would be good for a stock converter though (both need to be machined to fit the H turbine wheel)

Edit**** I screwed up, waller corrected me below, 12cm won't need machining. I think I was mixing them up with 8cm. - which would be kinda small on a 20g if you were upgrading anyway.

Assuming I find one with a 10 or 12CM housing, how much would the machining cost? Also, how easy is it to do the upgrade yourself? Or how much would it cost do the full upgrade (labor)?

can the stock pistons, rods, and so on... handle like 350hp and 550-600tq from a 20g with 12CM housing?

I know the stock rods and pistons are weak but I'm wondering if I can go with the 20g and stock internals.
opinions here in the forum differ.

I ran this turbo (or similar) for a few years and never had a single problem with rods and pistons.

or similar means? :)

what hp are u running?
did u change your staller, heads, DP or something else?

think I need a 2600-2800 staller with the standard 14CM - but with the 12?

I run the stock 2100 stall converter w/a 12 cm housing & it works fine.

My Sy makes 386 HP & 550 ft lbs of torque all stock long block.

Take it from me you will also need a 20g WG or external WG. My motor lasted 2 weeks when I went to a 20g because the WG that came with it was the stock one and I didn't expect it. OVERBOOST!!!

If I recall, the stock rod length is so short it wont even reach the flapper. Similar is, I had Wallers 20g with big wheel and 14cm. Cant go wrong with that one IMO. I had perfect boost control with the wg that came with it. I used the profec b.

thanks for your answer!

so about 380-400hp is the maximum to go with the all stock long block?

thought the 20g with 14cm is laggy as hell with the stock stall converter.
or is it possible to use a gt35 or something similar?

gt35r Is going to be a huge mod and very costly. With the 20g, you can get in to the 12's with a stock motor but I would highly recommend a better converter. I went with 2500 for 1/2 the time and later switched to 3k. Didn't notice a huge difference. For bang for the and reliability, I sy go with Wallers 20g.

I ran an 11.7x with the 20g, a 9/11 2800 stall converter, and an otherwise stock motor.

And a very well worked out tune... like 7-8 years worth.

A stock motor will handle 400+ easily if it doesn't ping. If it pings even a little, you'll break piston ring lands.
This is true at stock levels as well.

but on high octane fuel or?
here in austria only 93 octane pump gas is available.

so which turbo should i go with to reach about 400hp on 93 fuel.
fuel pump? chip ?

Better have a really good alcohol injection system, if you intend on running pump gas.

What you're asking for is difficult to do on an otherwise stock motor, with pump gas.
It will require a very good custom tune, and a well thought-out alcohol injection system.

You're not going to be able to buy a bunch of parts, bolt them on, and have it happen. Unless you don't care about blown-up motors.
