Carbon Fiber Hoods

ok, i know this has been beat to death but i think i found someone to make them for a reasonable price.

Octane Motor Sports is who i went through. I talked to a nice guy named Alex. He called Vis to see if they had a mold they could do cf hoods off of. they did, a 2-3 inch cowl induction type. Vis would be the MFG of them.

Here is the fiberglass version 82chs102dci-010. however, it seems they dont have a actual pic.i will get that to make sure to post it up asap.

These are 100% cf and bolt on. They will need a clear sprayed over them to keep from fading in time.

I dont know weight, they have never been made before, but could find out fg weight and guess.

They are located in City of Industry (LA). I will be picking up some hoods to save shipping cost as it is $175.00 each :shocked!:

If 10 or more people buy, they are $570.00 a peice. 1 to 10 is $600

I will NOT be touching any ones money or making money from this. Simply trying to hook it up. All orders will be through Octane MotorSports and will require 50% deposit and could take up to 3 months to finish.

I know this has been tried before, so i don't need negativity. I am going to give this a shot and hopefully they look great and function great. I think the price is more than reasonable but it is to bad they are not free.

Once i get a pic up of them ill start a tally if anybody wants one. ill put your name down ect. Buy you will be the one who has to call and pay. Here is their number, ask for Alex 916-366-0230 or 916-366-0280

Re: Carbon Fiber Hoods

I'll donate a complete solid North Carolina s-10 body for a mold if they are willing to make every carbon fiber part (hood, fenders, doors, dash, bed...) what the hay its my dreams I'll dream it how I want.

lol, they have a mold, if they were to make a new one, it would be really expensive.

I would be in for one a 750 mark.

Just wondering can you acutally just clear coat these and make them last or do they need to be painted I think the truck would look good with just a plain CF hood in clear but I dont wanna spend the money and then ruin the hood.

i can only count people in after pics. if they are ugly, nobody will want them.

They are 100% bolt on, but you can do what you wish

Re: Carbon Fiber Hoods

just in case this falls through, here is another option i stumbled upon yesterday.

Nice find, if these retards dont get me pics soon im going to dump the idea. Btw, vis hoods are supposed to be pretty good from what i hear. Now if only i knew what i was buying.

Ok, little update, called vis and they are going to get the pics to me asap, they didn't know how serious i was, they do now.

Re: Carbon Fiber Hoods

I can't say a lot for VIS, I saw a CRX hood that I was told was a VIS hood. I wasn't extremely impressed, but it was a decent hood, certainly I've seen much worse. The top side looked good, the support seemed to be really cheap, but then again, the crx hood market is probably pretty tough, and price matters. Of course, it could have very easily been a knock off.

One of the regular companies I was impressed with was Fiber Images. They did a few interesting tricks that got my attention, seemed to have some really nice stuff.

Ask them about what types of materials and how they are made. prepreg (its not going to be) / vacuum infusion / vacuum bagged / wet layup ? Resins? Poly/epoxy/vinylester? What fiber layup? weights and types of fiber? Are they clear coated or do they need to be? How do they recommend they be attatched to the truck? pins/latch?

Re: Carbon Fiber Hoods

well still waiting to see pics from VIS, i will ask them upon seeing pics what materials.

Talked to Feather Carbon today, real nice guy. His is a lift off only but if enough interest would do a bolt on in a 2"cowl. vac infused is his method, dont remember the rest.

His price is about 1G, but said it will weigh about 11 lbs. his lift-off weighs less than 7 and is a 4" cowl. His shipping is way cheaper, he is in Virginia, but shipping (even multiple hoods in 1 box) to Texas is 88 bucks, Cali, prob less than 120. he is willing to put multiple peices in 1 box if someone wishes.

Any chance they can do a stock appearing hood. Even better a pin on? My truck is nearly done and I need a lightweight no cowl hood.

Re: Carbon Fiber Hoods

Ok, some sort of an update is in order. Feather Carbon has a lift off hood for an ok price, but Vis does not seem to be in any hurry to get me pics. Neither has a stock style hood, trust me i asked, its what i wanted.

So this is going nowhere fast, as expected, and i have been harassing vis and the retailer since this started. We will se if this goes any farther. Feather will make stuff but it will take quite some time for a new mold, which is what he wants to do.

Re: Carbon Fiber Hoods

I've ran VIS hoods on a few of my vehicles and I've been very impressed with the quality each & every time. I never cleared mine, just kept a good coat of wax on them and never once ran into an issue with fading in the very humid Texas or dry Colorado heat. Mine always came with a hood latches installed but I'd also add pins just for added security.
