laying out the CF into a mold and putting it into a bag with a vacuum on it compresses the fiberglass (or epoxy) into the CF more than you could doing it by hand..
this in turn "wrings" out the excess glass and makes a piece much stronger and lighter.
also, the vacuum distributes the glass evenly across whatever area you are laying... and vacuum bagging allows you to shape the CF onto the mold with intricate curves and shapes without having airbubbles trapped in the cloth or finished product.

i would goto the junkyard and pick apart the S10s, though most of them have been there awhile and have torn up interiors, not worth the time and effort.
I got one of them off the guy a while ago.. I was happy with it, but that stuff is all flat sheet. Great for a quick dress up, but when you get into curves is when cf starts to shine... that, and the weight advantage of cf isnt doing anything for ya.
