Re: Carbon Fiber tailights?

I put these eBay altezzas on the Sy today. The fit and finish is much better on these than the original set I had on it a few years ago. Still have my mint stock lights if I decide to go back to the stock look.

I remember when I used to have those....:rotf:
They're a step up from these.

Are those the altezza tail lites you have on in this pic? They look like they fit really well........I just put an altezza set on mine and they fit like CRAP!

Re: Carbon Fiber tailights?

After I painted my Sy ( from the uninsured girl popping me in the bedside)..I had a hard time locating a new leftside tail light stock....so I bought a set off Ebay.
The fitment took quite abit of backside grinding to get a flush proper fit I must admit. (but I'm picky).
I then surface sanded them until all of the plastic molded WAVE on the surface was gone ( one of the things that makes them look cheap) and then tinted my clear (with blk.)and sprayed them with about 5 light coats until I liked what I saw.

Hard to really see in the pictures.....but if I go much darker, they begin to appear trashy,IMO. SO ...I left them at 5 light coats.I may go back and paint the outline( where our original aluminum frame was)....with a semi-flat black..

I started to sand mine down a little to get them to rotate around the bed a little better, but I was afraid to go to far with the sanding..........I was going to cut the piece that hits of the inner part of the new light and re-glass it. That is the only way I see these fitting like the oem units.:(

I have these same tail lights on the TY. I like them, they look way better than the chrome backing or white lens IMO. I am NOT a fan of Altezza's but these really do look good I think.

Re: Carbon Fiber tailights?

This is the auction for the lights I bought:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...0333200029&sspagename=STRK:MEWNX:IT&viewitem=

I don't like the plastic chrome or cleared out look myself, but these look pretty tough IMO. I should mention that I did have to Dremel off about 1/2" of the inside edge on both of the lamps so they would sit all the way down in the bed. Otherwise, they would be rotated outward and look stupid. Was no big deal, really.

Yes they are the carbon fiber ones. I have since tinted them black for a smooth look.

Yep....those are the same ones I put on.....looks like I will be cutting mine to fit aswell!

How or what did you use to reseal the part you cut off......or did it not need to be re sealed?

Jeremy,

I like the new tails. The black look the best IMO. Has anyone done LED tails on the stock lights?

also, where did you get your bed cover from? it's the flattest/most flush one i've seen!

Re: Carbon Fiber tailights?

S10cyncrvr on the S10forum did this to his altezza's a long time ago, color-matched the chrome.
I thought it looked pretty clean.
