Check my Ty

I'd like to get some opinions from you experts.

I'm considering selling my 92 Ty. It's in beautiful condition, almost completely stock. I'd post some pics, but it won't let me. See my homepage info under my profile.

How much did you guys buy your rides for? I'm at 98k miles, but one of my friends here in Colorado Springs (TYTILIDIE) said I would probably only get $5k from a dealership. That's absurd. I don't know if I could live with myself if I let it go for under $10k. Am I dreaming?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Ethan

Getting more than $10k for a Ty with just short of 100k miles from a dealership? You're not going to be able to live with yourself.

Yeah, I wouldn't think $10k from a dealership, but how about if I sell it myself?

I have seen, driven and worked on this Ty and will vouch that this is a DAMN nice truck. I told Ethan I thought he would only get 5 at a dealership because lets face it, thats what dealerships do. I'd say he could get 6 or 7 tops. What do you guys think? I am sure if he held out he could get the 10 he is looking for. Only problem is he has to move in like two weeks and can't take it with him.

Re: Check my Ty

If you sell it outright and all the variables are right, yeah you can get 10K. Problem is you have alot of factors against you. Market sucks, you have a short time frame to sell, and many more Im sure when all the cards are laid out. I wish you the best of luck selling it for what you want, its just going to be a uphill battle. Just IMHO.......but I hope you prove me wrong.

*Just looked at the pics and she sure does look nice.

Your dealer estimate is pretty spot on from what I've seen. We've had 3 trucks go through local dealers this year... well, 2, as one is still for sale. The current truck for sale has a ton of reliability upgrades, full WBO2 setup, etc. and it is only listed at $13,995. I can't imagine them giving much more than $5k for it. The previous two were listed at $12,995 and one of them sold for $8,995.

That's a clean looking Red/Gray

In it's shape, I would imagine you could pull $6,500 - $7,500 quickly. Maybe as high as $9-9,500 if you had time to wait. :dunno:

It's not quite as bad, market wise, as a few months ago. I've seen asking prices climb a little (Autotrader, Cars.com, even Craigslist). But they aren't out of the bottom yet.

Good luck with the sale if you have to sell it.

Asking prices are climbing from what I have seen because people are not as hard up for an immediate sale. They are now able to wait to have a better chance of getting closer to the asking price. What I haven't seen is the sale price in relation to the asking price along with the amount of time up for sale.

I would agree that the market sux right now. I would agree the 7-8k range is all that our trucks are bringing right too. It's too bad that nobody values these trucks like we as owners do. I cant wait until income tax time as I will be looking for a TY.

yeah ive seen prices inching up a bit too. I think people have learned to live broke and keep thier stuff longer.

I agree with most everyone... If you can live with letting it go for $8-9k range sell it now. If not I would wait until the market (hopefullly) comes back. 2-3 years ago that was easily a $10k truck. The market has definitely taken a dive. I bought my 92 wit 98,000 miles on for $9200 in 2005 and it was far from superior condition but it was a nice original truck.
