Ok so I just became a distributor(sort of) for CheckerPro and here is the deal I have for my Syclone peeps or any pickup truck for that matter.

I believe these are by far the best built and best looking bed covers on the market. Here is the website http://checkerpro.com/2.html for you to take a look. Every cover is custom made depending on your dimensions and delivery will take up to 3 weeks.

The bed cover is called the Checkmate FX and regular pricing shipped is from $650-$750

Here is the deal I have. I need 5 to get them shipped to your local business for $554 + 3% PP

I will be ordering one: if I get 9 more orders the price shipped will be $504 + 3% PP

Once again I am not making a dime on these I just really want one but don't have the coin for it right now at almost $700. This is the only reason for the 3%PP fees.

Please post up on this thread if your are interested.

Wow, they have upped their prices big time. I remember when they were $400ish shipped regular price. Ive been wanting to get one for years now, just the money always seems to go elsewhere.

Im interested if you start getting close to 9 people. I agree, these covers are by far the best looking as far as a flush fit tonneau goes. They are lightweight, paintable, and the quick release hinges are sweet.

Re: Checkmate FX bed covers!!!

Their website sure leaves a lot of questions unanswered.

  • What is the construction?
  • How much does it weigh?
  • How do they do the water-seal? Particularly at the front with the piano hinge? Is there a 'gutter', or just a rubber lip seal?
  • Piano hinge at the front, right? How many screw holes?
  • How do they keep it flush when closed? What are the stops?
  • Is it a gel coat or painted finish?
  • What is the finish of the underside?
  • Is the gas shock mounting hardware stainless steel, or zinc plated steel?

Thanks.

I sent the email should have a response for you DaveP by tomorrow evening.

Edit: Never mind. They have installation instructions available on line. I learned enough. I'll pass. It's rather expensive for what it is, and the shipping is uber-a lot. Thanks.

Dave, Ian has one on his truck. If you'd like, I can walk over to his house and snap some pics of his. He has the quick release hinges and whatnot.

I think I can answer most of what you want to know (I should become a dealer, ha):

[*]What is the construction? - Fiberglass with a foam core. Metal trim lines it and is riveted into the fiberglass/core.

[*]How much does it weigh? - Not sure, but one person can carry it without strain

[*]How do they do the water-seal? Particularly at the front with the piano hinge? Is there a 'gutter', or just a rubber lip seal? - There is foam that lines the entire lip on the underside. Ian had some issue with leakage, but he actually bought some better seal material and hasnt had an issue since.

[*]Piano hinge at the front, right? How many screw holes? Yes, and I'll look today....

[*]How do they keep it flush when closed? What are the stops? There is a metal trim that overlaps and sits on top of the bed. The core of the cover sits down in the bed opening. The stops are the gas shocks full extended. Depending on where you mount the shocks, you make make the tonneau open up huge or small.

[*]Is it a gel coat or painted finish? - Dont know how they do it now, but they used to come raw...you gotta paint them.

[*]What is the finish of the underside? - fiberglass

[*]Is the gas shock mounting hardware stainless steel, or zinc plated steel? - Dont know, maybe be able to tell with pics?

Pics I can find quick:

Like I said....they are actually a really nice flush cover since they dont stick up and sit ON TOP of the bed and look all bulky. You know me...Ive got kinda high standards when it comes to putting shit on my truck. I do agree, they have gotten expensive...but if the price drops to $500 shipped with 9, I guess that is reasonable since I remember it being 400 shipped which is why Im interested. Inflation is a bitch and we are talking 5+ years ago when they used to be in the 400 range. The usual retail price now is ridiculous....I could build one for cheaper (and make it from CF) but the time spent, just easier to buy one and be done with it.....I can always modify it later ::evilgrin::

Thank you for the kind words Adam. I really like them too and I hope we get 7 more as I really want one for myself, but as you said damn close to $700 is ridiculous. Why don't you check with D2 he probably need at least 6 of the other 7 for all his trucks.....LOL

Re: Checkmate FX bed covers!!!

The only way to get this price is to ship them to a business. If you ship them to a residence they add $100. Crazy!!!

So here's a question. I own a business.....licensed out of my house. That gonna be a problem? It would be shipping to a business :D

I will have to check but most of the time that doesn't work the area needs to be deeded as commercial property. But I am sure you have a friend's business you could send it to. i.e Harmon and Mr. King:tup::tup::tup:

Re: Checkmate FX bed covers!!!

I purchased mine over 9 years ago (Those palms in the background are now approaching 30'). A couple pictures and a few observations:

- Durability has been excellent; it still looks good today. Back then the covers were raw glass so I had mine painted and gel coated early on. Not long after I noticed about a half dozen pin holes in the gel coat, but I wax it from time to time and it hasn't been an issue at all.
- Highly recommend the quick-release hinges (or make your own from aluminum stock and rivet fasteners). With them, removing the cover is an easy 2-person, 2-minute task so you can haul oversized stuff (I use my truck to make runs to the county landfill from time to time).
- I re-did the rubber gasket early on to prevent leaks. 100% fixed, no leaks. Perhaps they've improved the quality of the original seals by now.
- On the original design, when the cover is wet, opening it routes the water towards the back hinge and, because there was no provision to channel it elsewhere, into the bed of the truck. I've placed various rubber flaps over the length of the rear hinge with fair (but not complete) success.
- I bought the two locks to provide a little security for stuff stowed inside. I say a little - it's a Styrofoam core, glass shell after all. You're not going to want to store the family jewels inside. If you purchase the locks, be very careful not to over-torque them, you can easily dimple the cover (ask me how I know, over-torque is my middle name).

Re: Checkmate FX bed covers!!!

Rob, That is awesome. Thanks so much, I can't wait to get one. It looks awesome on your truck, hard to believe it is 9 yrs old. Could you please post some pics like that of some closeups, underside lathes, locks, and hinges?

Thanks again for the post. If you don't mind me asking what did you pay for yours 9 yrs ago? Was it worth it?

I

You're not going to want to store the family jewels inside.

I try to keep mine safe, usually less than an arms length away.

Have you been standing very close to the microwave while it is on (South Park reference) where you would have the need to put them in the bed of your truck?

Re: Checkmate FX bed covers!!!

FOR EVERYONE THAT WANTS TO KNOW & DAVEP

The CheckMate FX is constructed from a specially manufactured panel
consisting of two layers of gel-coated fiberglass (white on one side, black
on the other) with approximately 1" of polystyrene sandwiched between the
two layers of fiberglass. It is raw fiberglass, so it does have a textured,
ripple-effect (similar to the look of leather) appearance, but also has a
layer of clear gel-coat which gives it the semi-gloss finish. The
polystyrene in the middle is pieced together by the
panel manufacturer, so there is always a seam down the length of the panel.
Many customers choose not to paint the bed cover, as the finished product
does look very nice as-is. For those that choose to paint their bed covers,
paint preparation instructions are included. It is necessary to smooth and
fill the cover before painting. It is framed with specially die-cast
aluminum rail, which is riveted to the panel. The panel recesses down into
the truck bed, while the frame lies flush on the side rails, bulkhead, and
tailgate, creating the clean, low profile bed cover. Bed covers vary
greatly in
size, and therefore the weight varies from approximately 45 - 50 pounds to
approximately 75 - 80 pounds. The crated (shipping) weight can be
approximately 60 - 65 pounds to approximately 90 - 105 pounds. 5/8" X 3/8"
weather stripping is applied under the
aluminum frame, which protects the finish of the truck and provides weather
resistance. We also have 1/2" X 1/2" weather stripping available for
special applications, such as when the bulkhead and/or tailgate is slightly
lower than the side rails. There is a space in the weather stripping for
the
hinges and therefore the slight possibility of a minimal amount of water
coming in, which is why the CheckMate FX is described as very weather
resistant
rather than totally waterproof. We do not want to mislead our customers.
It is just the nature of the extremely "flush" mount. There are five holes
in each hinge. You can choose to use between three and five screws on each
one. There are also two to three screws for each shock bracket, and two to
four screws for each latch bracket. The bed cover is held down with the
rubber latches on the underside, which are shown under the accessories tab
on our website. If your tailgate doesn't open from the outside, you have to
forego the rubber latches and opt for the exterior locks. The hardware is
plated metal.

You can get a better idea, and see much of what is explained here, by
browsing our website, and especially by clicking on the Photo Gallery tab
and enlarging the photos.
