Chip comparison/opinions

Anyone tried one of these yet? I am curious how they install and how it operates between the tunes.

How would this compare to a custom chip by Nolan or Hood? Truck is stock except for FPR and fuel pump. It will stay stock, just want a little more zip while keeping it reliable.

If you could share your experience with these products I would appreciate it so I could make an informed decision. Thanks!

Hmm... been a few days... no one on here have any experience with these tunes?

Hoods are from decades of experience.
Both Nolan and Hood are exceptional.

IIRC, Hood was hooked up with BG and the other old timers.

Hmmm, I do not recall anyone metioning Hood w/tuning w/Brian Green & Todd A?

Maybe I just have a bad memory?

I always thought the code was in the hands of a few. I'm sure Hood will answer. 5+ years ago there weren't 100+ selfmade tuners out there....

Re: Chip comparison/opinions

I was never involved with the original Ultimate (with BG and Todd). BG did, however, "mentor" me in learning to tune (this was 1999/2000 ish). Many long nights of chatting with BG on AOL IM (does anyone use that anymore?) and reburning (actually reburning, not emulating) 1000s of chips got me going.

Having said that, technology (emulation, tunerpro, etc...) has taken the necessity of a decade of tuning out of the experience equation, so I feel anyone with the right mindset, time, and patience can become a good "tuner" in no time. The experience plays in when you're tackling a difficult tune or a combo that's never been attempted (like when I tuned Robert's Mutant Sy). Otherwise, I encourage everyone to grab an emulator, WB, and tunerpro and tune for yourself. No tuner will ever care as much about your truck or how it runs as you will.

Syty chip history in nutshell

Turbodig, Brian Green, Todd A, and a few "others" began to figure out the code inside. Promgrammer was the first software made.

Brian G. with help and guidance/help "hacked" a 3 bar code into the chips.

~5yrs ago a non syty person had reversed the syty code to the point where it could be recompiled, this allowed for programming to happen vs just "hacks"

code59 was born, new code created, previous 3bar hack improved, tunerpro helped with interface, emulators became much more popular, etc.

Lots of missing pieces in between there but that is the highlights.

I still find it funny that people compare chips. Lets say Robert who just ran his 8.7X pass posted his tune for everybody to use. Guess what, it would SUCK. Everybody would bitch their truck didn't run right, etc etc. The tune sucks, chip sucks, etc.

Yet here robert just ran the fastest AWD pass we know about on it.

The key is if the tune is RIGHT for YOUR combination. Doesn't matter if Hood did it, Nolan, Jesus or Osama. It must match. The ONLY way for it to match exactly right is a custom tune. Anything else is a compromise.

Ditto times ∞.

Though I do think Jesus could make a universal chip. :D
