so far its holding Im not sanding on the repaired piece till next week, its a fiber reinforced weld seemps pretty solid I had to suff with 30 grit paper to get a good "bite"

Hmmm, very interesting... did the weld look shiny, or did it have kind of a mat finish to it?

tried a new toy today

cats ass for repairing cladding scuff with 36 grit wheel, weld, sand smooth use fine filler to make pretty seal prime and paint saves alot of time

I've had this for years, the uniweld works well.

That's cool... I'll have to check it out. Does it melt the cladding as you add filler from the sticks, like a regular welder?

yes, it takes awhile to melt/get soft enough, but it does work..

Where would I find the right type of plastic to recreate some tabs?

Haven't had the pleasure yet so I'm curious too. I would think the plastic bondo spreaders would work? anybody else?

I don't think the bondo spreaders would work.... they look like a polyethylene-based product. I think we need an ABS-based plastic. I'm pretty sure McMaster-Carr sells small sheets of ABS.

look at car craft april 2009 page 50 " plastic repair " on page 52 there is a chart telling the symbol and type material, are cladding is TPU--thermoplastic polyurthane. the back of are cladding has TPU stamped on it. good article, I use SEM product, very costly but very good.

Is Saturn/Buick/GM fender plastic the same stuff? I could find a cracked up Saturn someplace.

Mac's has sheets of misc plastic, but I don't think it's the same type.

Is the Harbor Freight plastic welder worth anything?

honestly it would be too boring to follow.. you heat up welder melt plastic and put em together!

it is really easy. just takes a shitload of time.

I have gotten spare parts from body shops and cut up pieces from them to use as tabs. just check to see what is stamped on the back and see if it is the same type of plastic.
