Code59 Tech Sessions

Jeffrey and I are pounding out the slide deck for the Code59 sessions, and we're wondering what people want to hear about..

There will likely be 2 sessions - a 100-level for those just getting into code59, and a 200-level for those that already are running it and want to learn more.

We're trying to keep these to less than an hour each, longer than that and people tend to glaze over.

If there are particular areas you want to hear about/points to address, please chime in.

Re: Code59 Tech Sessions

We are working on a nice raffle prize for tech session also.

This will be at the corvette museum, they have an overhead for our use I have heard, room to sit with trucks right there with us. So it should provide a good enviroment.

It would be nice if a video was made for us not able to attend. I would be willing to pay for it (within reason).

Re: Code59 Tech Sessions

you should tell us all where the easy button is in tuner pro.

seriously though, just examples of bad tunes and what processes you would go through to solve the issue, scenarios help show people how an issue gets remedied using the software in addition to what the software all does.
Example of bad maps, and examples of good maps, changing of tables, analyzing of autotune(so people know what is changing and why) etc.

either way im sure you guys will do awesome, any little bit will help.

Good thoughts... this will likely be 200-level stuff. I have a thing planned on idle surge, maybe a bit on kickdowns and throttle response as well. I'm a bit different in that I don't use Autotune as much until I have a lot of the basic stuff worked out.

Jeff mentioned he might have a video cam to record, it'll be just the thing for all you insomniacs out there.

Re: Code59 Tech Sessions

If I was going I would think for the 100 group a how to down load everything properly on the computer and then get everything in the truck properly and then start the idle tuning and so on

but I can be there

Sheeeit, sounds like I don't even know about the basics..

Assuming the needed equip is already installed, I think a tuning video walk through would be a big help to me. Perhaps how to turn a stock truck into a tuned truck...? I need a feel for the entire tuning process and would love to watch someone who KNOWs what they're doing. Hooking the equipment up and burning chips was the easy part, I'm mostly worried about BLOWING my truck up cuz I missed something. I to would also pay for a good video.

Re: Code59 Tech Sessions

I will attend both.. because a refresher is nice plus learning anything now is helpful.

Re: Code59 Tech Sessions

Can I volunteer my truck to be tuned in the class? I would provide the truck and laptop w/emulator all hooked up and ready to go. Now on a more serious note, I would like to learn more about the basics of tuning. Like what does a perfect tune look like, and what steps to take to achieve this. I wouldn't mind at all if these sessions take 3 hours apiece, this is the best way to learn this stuff.
Thanks,

How to locate Bigfoot. Gotcha.

Seriously though, "perfect" is something that never happens. There are some qualities of a good tune, however, and we'll hit those in the presentations.

Thanks,

We'd have to lay in a good supply of pillows. Our intent here is to get people into and comfortable with the process vs. going into an exhaustive description of what to do for every condition. You could literally do a couple days on this stuff without too much trouble.

There will likely be "breakout discussions" after the session.

I'll add a section on "fear".

Good ideas, guys, keep 'em coming. This is filling in holes that I had in the slide deck really well.

Re: Code59 Tech Sessions

Don't know how I missed this thread... This is kind of how I've progressed as I've made my way through '59.....

My Code59 journey has been a lot of fun, sometimes trying, but very satisfying in seeing great results...

Off the top of my head...

1) what is needed with regard to hardware (computer, cables, etc.)
2) how to hook up the hardware (com port issues, etc.)
3) Why DM is needed, and why it makes for faster interpretation of the data
4) The Code59 site.. what's important, what to download, where to put it.
5) Make a list of all mods to the truck. What is present, what is needed to use '59 properly.
a) what are your boost goals.
b) what are the timing goals.
6) Taking DM for a trial log run
7) Connecting TPRT, going for a test log run
8) Getting familiar with Autotune... what it is, what it ISN'T, how to copy/paste
9) Introducing your first '59 bin... what it is, what you will be doing with it (general).
10) The important steps in tuning
a) drivability
b) cruise
c) part throttle expansion of the rpm window
d) timing
e) boost
11) which fields affect/are modified for each of the above conditions.
12) what if you run into a wall (KR with little timing, for example)... checking engine parameter (timing, etc.) for proper adjustment/specs.

gotta run to a family function, but I'll add some more later on....

Re: Code59 Tech Sessions

Yep, friday. Just not time sat and sunday dig and I would be talking with ourselfs.

I do have word that we will have one hell of a raffle prize for the tech session related to code59. Still working all the details.

Dig and I have spent more hours preparing the presentation slides than the session will be. LOL There is a lot of good info that I know took me several years to comprehend.
