Collector Plates

Has anyone qualified for collector plates with either Sy or Ty since PAS has been out of business for more than 5 years?

Cheaper insurance with collectors plates, vehicle must be 15 years old or older and manufacture must not have produce a vehicle in the last 5 years.

Re: Collector Plates

I have them for my truck since it makes me exempt from emissions in my state. Had to send in all kinds of documentation to prove that it was a rare vehicle. The publications that the BMV use only go to back as far as 1990 in Ohio...

Re: Collector Plates

Anyone have any idea if this works in Colorado? I'd love to quit the emissions testing.

Re: Collector Plates

+1 for the CO request. I've just heard it was for vehicles 25 years or older

Re: Collector Plates

In Florida the vehicle has an age requirement of 25 years, so the Syclone and the GN are still too new. Chevelle would qualify, but I have a plate from 1972 that I'm allowed to use, fi I ever get off my ass and do the paperwork...

Re: Collector Plates

I know here in WA it is 25 years also. But also to Limited number of vehicles built. I have seen a couple of Vipers with plates on them. I will have to look into it though

Re: Collector Plates

Minnesota divides this category into four plates: Pioneer, Classic, Collector, and Street Rod.

Pioneer Plates
Any vehicle manufactured before 1936 and retained as a collector's item can display these plates.

Classic Plates
These plates can be displayed on any vehicle manufactured from 1925 to 1948 that's deemed a classic car by the registrar of motor vehicles. The criteria for this designation includes superior workmanship, design, elite engineering standards, and proof the vehicle is only used as a collector's item.

Collector Plates
Any vehicle that's at least 20 model years old and manufactured after 1935 can display these plates, providing you, the owner, also have at least one other vehicle registered in Minnesota.

Street Rod Plates
You qualify for these plates if your vehicle was manufactured before 1949 or was recreated to resemble a vehicle manufactured before 1949. You must also have at least one other vehicle registered in Minnesota.

I think it's 30 years in Wa, but I'll have to check into the limited vehicle qualification.

I think it's 25 for emissions, 30 for classic plates.
Was thinking of licensing in Montana for permenant plates. 10 years or older, but don't know if you can use original year plate, or have to use new plates.

Re: Collector Plates

In NV we can get classic rod plates once its over 20 years old. Exempt from smog. I hadn't even thought about it much when a Honda guy came in the dyno shop all happy he had plates and didn't have to hassle with smog every year. LOT of people would gladly pay extra every year to avoid smog. Especially when most drive them very few miles a year.
