Colored wax and chip fixes

This is kind of a poll... looking to see who has had good/bad luck with different waxes, polishes and other chip fixes.

I've got a black/black 93 typhoon that has been in the sun a bit too long... roof is faded, and it has several chips and defects in the paint. Looking for a "quick fix" to get it looking better(and keep any rust from forming)until I can afford a quality full re-paint.

So, anyone have any problems w/ specific products... like black wax not matching right, or polishes that do more harm than good, ect... or any product you would strongly recommend?

I don't know much about these things, I've always been able to keep an exterior in good shape or I had a junk heap and I really didn't care what happened to it.

You're probably gonna get a lot of differing responses here, but I'm gonna throw Zymol into the mix. I got this stuff (blue-ish liquid format) as a gift last Christmas and although I'd heard good things about it, I'd never really tried it out (was a tried and true Maquire's user....don't ask why). Well, I've gotta say it's produced the best rich, deep looking finish on my vehicles I've ever gotten. And it's the easiest to apply and buff (nearly none required) of anything I've ever used. So, props to Zymol from me.

Only problem is, it's not a chip filler or colored....it's just a great wax.

You have a couple options as far as touch up paint goes, try and get one similar...which wouldn't be hard for your truck (black). Or if it is faded have them take a picture of the faded area and have them match it the best they can.

Quality paint jobs are going to cost ya big bucks on this truck, I hope you know someone in the body business.

See, I don't know if I would put a wheel on the truck esp. if the paint is faded, cause you might rub through. I would suggest that you go to a well known painters supply and ask them what they would recommend and have them take a look at what you got or are trying to correct.

There is a Dupont Painters Supply on Grossbeck right after Common (between 12 and 13 mile road, that is very good at mixing/advice. There is also one on Gratiot in Mt. Clemens, but it is kind of hard to find.

Good luck!

Re: Colored wax and chip fixes

Thanks for the advice on the shop, and yes, I know a good painter(he's working on my other car right now actually, hence the reason I can't afford it at the moment).

Anyway, I'm not that worried about the roof when it comes to a 100%match, I just want it black-er. Most of the chips and blemishes are on the hood, and that isn't faded. It had a partial repaint somewhere along the line. I know I need a repaint, there isn't a question about it, I'm just trying to hold off and fix it on the cheap until I can get it done.

But that being said, just because I'm not going to spend big bucks doesn't mean it needs to look like a gallopy. Realisticly, if it looks good from a few feet away, I'll be satisfied... for now.

+1
Lack of clear coat on the black trucks makes it very easy to rub through the paint.
