computer guru's...how to get a laptop online...

i have no way to get my dinasour pc on the internet...(no usb, no eithernet, no phone modem port)

its a ibm 365xd

windows 98 oper.sys.

i have 2 card slots,

a parelel port,

a sereal port,

a port for mouse/keyboard,

and a printer port.

any ideas???

also.....my desktop is a 3 meg service at&t through the phone line. (not 56k)
with a phone to eithernet modem

new computer? emachines are dirt cheap at walmart. or could get a modem/network card.

nope i want to keep this one for running datamaster. it works great in the truck, is super small and VERY sturdy. just what i want in the truck.

just not user friendly out of the truck.

buy my thinkpad r50 and call it a day

but for that once $2500 piece of machinery you got there buy a NIC card... the laptop should have some slots on the side of it where you fit in a 3com card etc but your really limited with that model.. what's that have 24mb of ram?

40 mb of ram...:rotf:

it was the souped up model:rotf:

i tried to update to xp, but it told me i needed 60mb minimum :rant:

is the ram upgradeable???

2 card slots? Find a card that runs on w98. My old laptop, doing the same job, had 1, count it, one, USB port. I found a wireless adapter that ran on 98 and I was on.

Are you needing to get online, or just connect to another 'puter to move files (logs, tunes...)? If that's it, do some reading on Direct Cable Connection, uses the parallel ports to connect to another computer, easy to make the cable yourself.

You also might want to check out www.litepc.com

Really hand for 98 laptops, you can pare out all the windows junk and get it pretty small.
Smaller takes less ram...

All I have to say is NEW LAPTOP LOL... I sold the one I had for my TunerCat with cable for my LT1 F-body already but you can pick up a good used toshiba for CHEAP.
