I am about to buy the controller for my 4L80E and have seen various trans controllers.

The PCS one:

The old TCI one

The new TCI one (|looks like the PCS one!!)

What are people using? What are the reasons for their choices? I have searched but it would be nice to have it all in one place!

My current preference is to go with the PCS one as it is about 250 cheaper than TCI....

Can you guys comment/advise please?

yup - saw that

Just wondering if there were many others or what their experiences were!

That thread is what influenced my PCS preference. I guess I just now need to get the harness and the computer and converter.

Jeff helped me put the PCS one in my Ty. I was his ginnea pig. He wasn't sure which one to get for his. I didn't like the TCI one after seeing the software. Jeff showed me this one so I went ahead and got it. Love it.

Jeff set my 4l80e up with a Tahoe ecm. And now that I have some of the wiring issues resolved,TCC lockup controlled by my ECM, and the lockup tables right; I am more than happy. My truck was guinea pig version 2.0 so we learned a few things. Now that I have a few thousand (2 or 3 thou) on it I wouldnt discount the GM ecm route. IThe only thing I am going to change in the future is upping the shift points.

Saw the option on the PCS page for an unterminated harness.. $150.

This setup as well as being potentially better than TCI is also cheaper at $850 as opposed to the TCI package which comes in at $1083 total....

When I put an 80e in my sy this a pcs will be what i will use mainly for the outputs. I am currently putting an 80e in a 86 monte and am using an tci becuase i think they work well and i do not need any outputs to contol any thing else like alky

that is all done electronically on the 80E mate. Never heard of people adjusting with screws on here.

Could be wrong though....

I have seen this, good for the guy that hates computers, laptops and has a streetrod he is putting a trans in. Is more expensive though, especially if you add in the display.

Not a bad unit, just not as many features as some others.

Another option might be to buy a PCS harness and use a GM ecm computer. You would have ~$225 in it, and not too much wiring left to do.

I made up a little how-to on using a GM ECM to control an 80e.. I just haven't posted it yet as I haven't gotten around to doing it to verify that 100% of the info is correct.

If your willing to go to a u-pull-it yard and grab a 60e harness from a 93-94 s10 you get everything you need wiring and connector wise for ~$10.

http://mattw.dyndns.org/4L80E/

I'm cheap and I enjoy a challenge so this will def be the route that I go..

EDIT: I just re-read my how-to and its not done.. I have also learned some additional info since I last updated. I'm thinking a nice Visio wiring type diagram of everything would be nice too.. Maybe someday I will have time to make one up.

Might work for you guys, but I am stuck in the UK :(

The harness for the 4L80 though - that sounds like a good idea with the GM ECM, though I do like the shiny new boxes of new parts! It is Christmas after all!

I gave matt all the info I had on paper, hard to transfer what is in my head via email though.

It isn't a simple solution by any means, but it does work fairly well if you don't mind some wiring, troubleshooting and doing it yourself.
