Cryogenic intake

Has anybody tried DEI's Cryogenic intake sytem? For those not familiar it uses CO2 to cool the fuel bar and also sprays CO2 through the intercooler fins. It claims to lower the intake temps by 35%. They won Best New Product award at SEMA for it. Any downfalls?

CO2 may freeze the antifreeze in a water/air intercooler. You may have to play with nozzle placement to avoid freezing.

You wouldn't want any to make it's way to the intake.

I think someone used it on their Syclone a few years ago with some pretty good results.....can't remember who right now.

No it wasn't me. At least I have not used that system. I did have the remote CO2 bottle with a spray nozzle on the IC heat exchanger. It was more of a conversational piece than anything else. Looked cool and made lots of noise and fog. I don't know that it really helped, especially if I was runnng the 1/8 mile and started with cool water. A 10 lb bottle was good for about 20 - 30 seconds of spray. And if CO2 finds it's way to the air filter, it will only hurt performance.

One of the nitrous companies makes a nitrous " intercooler kit "that does the same thing. I am pretty certain that its Barry Grant. I am sure it would work, but I think you would have to spray a relatively massive amount to make a significant temperature difference. I would say propane injection might be a better solution. That way you not only get an increase in octane, but you get an icy cool blast of air in the intake tract. Propane has unbelievable refrigeration potential.

Thanks for all the input. Jim has one of the nicest Ty's I've seen. I just picked mine up a few weeks ago with only 36,000 miles. Nitrous Xpress is the company that makes a NO2 kit that does the same. The DEI kit also has an optional pod that mounts in your air intake tube which freezes, then the air flows around it. I'm going to give it a shot after I do the fuel pump and other upgrades. I'm having our sway bar engineer design a better front sway bar for my Ty if anyone else is interested let me know.

In theory cooling the intercooler down with nitrous or nitrogen or co2 should work....

But practice and real world can throw theories out the window....

The only way I see nitrous on the intercooler helping any is if you suck some into the intake.
