cv boots....

My attempted search on these went UGLY.

My original outer ones are starting to rip/leak. All 4 of 'em are the ORIGINAL at 127k miles. I'd LOVE to replace all 4 with ORIGINAL material/style ones and not the crappy/cheap auto part store replacements. CarParts.com lists:

FWD Shaft CV-joint Boot Kit(inner) AC Delco #36-1190 @ $36.16
" " " " " " (outer) " " " " "
It also lists:

FWD Shaft Tripot  Joint Boot Kit(inner) AC Delco #36-1192 @ $31.57 but haven't a clue what this one is for?

I'm ASSuming that I need 4 ea. of the #36-1190's @$36.16ea. to replace my 2 inner's and 2 outer's? OR are there 2 cv boots in ONE kit? Anyone know if the material/rubber is the same/better than the original's?Any recommendations for other places, dealerships for better prices? I need some comments/suggestions/recommendations please. TIA!!

For about the same price per side you could install complete axles.... which at 127k would be a good idea IMO. The last one I bought at Advanced Auto was ~$68.00 + tax.

Just putting CV boots on a half shaft is a big enough PIA that I refuse to do it on my truck or on any other POS FWD car someone else brings me to fix. Its either complete axles or take it to someone else in my garage. :D

With air tools I can do one syty axle in ~45 minutes from the time I put the floor jack under it till it rolls out of the garage door... and thats not really rushing things.

I dunno how much cash you have to play with but no matter what you do you might look into doing the ball joints also if yours are original. You'll have it apart anyway wheather you do complete axles or just boots. Just a thought. :D

If you have a Napa close by check them out. I got mine for under 60 bucks.
Changing them isn't too bad, if you have some mechanical skills and have the right tools. Probably will need an air inpack gun for removal of the shaft nut, I did.

FWIW.. I avoid NAPA axles like the plague.. I went through THREE napa axles in ~1500 miles cause the boots would split. I can see one axle having a defective boot or the remote chance of two... but three?? I took the third and final one back for a refund and grudgingly went to Advanced Auto and got one. Zero probs so far with it.
