Datamaster Connection Issues with MSD 6A

Who here has had connectivity issues with datamaster when using an MSD ignition box. With ign power on, the laptop stays connected for good, start the truck up and within 10-15 seconds it disconnects then reconnects a few seconds later. A good rev tends to kick it offline even faster.

Bypass the MSD box and never an issue.

Nolan mentioned alot of guys are using noise filters? Perhaps the MSD one that installs inline on the red/black wires coming out of the ignition box?

Is this the known fix? thanks

Just FYI running DM with a 6al before the bearings toasted with no issues.

Did you try it with the ALDL patch?

MSD boxes create a ton of ground noise... wouldn't surprise me.

I've never had problems with mine, but my MSD is at least 28 years old. (really)

My ignition has been around longer than most of the members on this board. Sad.

Did you verify the ALDL link timing? It always screws me up...

Dig whats the ALDL patch you are referring to? going to install the noise filter today and see how that goes. definately related to the MSD, cause with the stock ignition it is fine.

Re: Datamaster Connection Issues with MSD 6A

yeh i wouldn't exactly call it a "shady" ground, but i will try directly connecting it to the battery first. :)

Nolan had mentioned something about a filter when i was talking to him and he recommended i look on syty.net for the fix..hehe

Re: Datamaster Connection Issues with MSD 6A

FYI, the MSD noise filter fixed the problem. Connecting the power/ground directly to the battery did nothing.

Re: Datamaster Connection Issues with MSD 6A

Jeff Scott had problems connecting this weekend at the track after a freshly installed MSD. Although he is using TunerPro, not Datamaster.

I'll report back if/when he gets a noise filter on there, and if it helps.
