DataMaster error

OK the Alky is in. Go out for a test run and DataMaster says I have a DTC error. It will find the chip if I "test comm." I've played with ALDL link timing and anything greater than 1 it won't sync, 1 or 0 and I'm back to DTC error. This happened a few times last year, seemed to go away on its own. Now it's back and I can't get rid of it. Done some searching but got nowhere. :( Anyway, thought, comments, hints, flame:cool: . Can't very well attempt to tune without my DataMaster working.

TIA

Re: DataMaster error

Serial? I can never keep the serial/parallel thing straight. :) I'm gonna take the "box" apart and see if there's a bad connection.

This probably isn't worth anything to ya, but on my IBM laptop, I have to disable the infrared port and the mouse port to get Datamaster to work. It took me a LONG time to figure that one out.

Re: DataMaster error

i got 2 of those cables, and i never got them to work, so i bought a cable from ppiTyphoon, and never has a problem with it.

Re: DataMaster error

For what it is worth, I have built several of the ALDL cables. Some of the cables try to power the circuit from the laptop. What frequently happens is a brand of laptop won't give enough current to run the circuit so it won't work. This happens frequently when running of just the laptop's battery.

To solve the problem, I put a cigarette connector on all of my cables to power the chip from the car battery rather than the laptop battery.

No one has ever complained about the cables.

There have been complaints about DataMaster but not the cables.

Re: DataMaster error

Don't know that I "did" anything. Plugged it in again for the umpteenth time and it worked. Go figure. Maybe it likes racing. It started working at the track...
