Defeated...for now.

****RANT WARNING****

I bought my Ty from my Dad last year for sentimental reasons and the fact that I always remember it being a fast, fun, unique vehicle.

Since owning it I have learned a lot about it and had some great help. Today was the final straw though.

I have been trying to do the car bit by bit hoping that there would be a fix here and a fix there but it is like banging my head against a wall.

Does nothing work on this thing?

I took it to a tuning place today to get an idea of the power of the engine as I thought it was underpowered compared to another stock UK Ty.

The guy did some diagnostics and the results are below:

TUNING001.jpg

TUNING002.jpg

TUNING003.jpg

Basically there is a fuelling issue with at least one injector and the ignition timing is off - I think it is the leads, even though they were replaced last year when I tried to do a tune.

One cylinder is barely getting fuel so the chances are that it is FUBAR by now, and if it is not the injector pintle then the cam lobe is flattened. Rebuild time?

So I am now looking at having to take off the injector and presumably the fuel rail, to get them ultra sonically cleaned. If that fails then I have to get a new cam.

So I was pretty pissed when I learned that. He also told me I have a trans fluid leak and given the noises coming from the truck, I am sure my 700R4 is on the way out. It cannot seem to maintain a gear when cruising and is constantly changing up or down at steady speed- don't even ask what the FP is doing - the gauge is all over the place.

He tells me that he wouldn't put the car on a Dyno as it is nowhere near ready to do that. Bugger.

I leave and get 5 miles down the road before getting a CEL.

Codes 15, 31, 32, 44. For F**** sake.

The code 15 refuses to go away. I limped home and the 35 mile journey took me 4 hours. Every time the light came on I would stop, let it cool and check the fluid level.

So the problems with the car right now?

Engine - cylinder fueling, temp sensor, temp gauge sensor

Steering - sloppy and crap

Drivetrain - squeaking prop shaft, clicking noise form trans, leaking pan, needs a 2800 stall put in. (20G turbo on the car)

Tuning - fuel pressure random and sporadic, mileage is appalling - 35 miles took out 1/4 of the tank.

Interior - the hoses for the lumbars are perished and the wiper stalk is internittent, AC selector is missing a cable I think - are there supposed to be two?

Bodywork - front windscreen leaks when it rain, the side is in terrible condition and there are patches of rust beginning to form around the car.

Wheels - I have a gorgeous set of new wheels, but cannot fit them without the security fittings.

Electrical - about the only thing that does work if you forget about the wipers.

So the car goes onto axle stands tomorrow / next week and I am going to take apart the bits that need doing and change it bit by bit.

I cannot cope with it being my only vehicle, and am going to buy something that runs. $8 per gallon makes it a very expensive toy that is starting to bug me.

I just hope that one day it gets back on the road. I just don't know how to go about it.

Sorry, I just needed to vent.

Cheers,

Mark

Re: Defeated...for now.

What are we looking at? Is the first printout injector pulse width? Also, is the second printout vacuum and HC's ? If so, might have a broken ring.

Re: Defeated...for now.

First is the signal from the distributor that reaches the plugs, second is the vacuum and HC test.

I love/hate this car.

I just feel like tearing it to pieces.

Thanks for any input - but it just cannot go on the road until I solve it. I guess this is what happens when idiots service your car.

F****** saudi Ty.

Alcohol and frustration = potent mix.

I second that, just get a beater, and fix the ty while trying to stay sane, it will all be worth it when it's right.

Sounds like normal stuff to me.

Once you rebuild the engine, fuel sytem, tranmission and suspension, you should be good to go.

Just spend the money and get it done,or bail.

:rotf: You are not wrong. Not bailing though!

Got her up on stands for the next 2 months while I am in Kenya, then I am going to see Bezerk again in Holland. Might try and get the fuel pump and AFPR in while it is on the stands next weekend.

Cheers for the encouragement and help guys. Just at a bit of a low with the car for the moment.

Re: Defeated...for now.

You and other UK guys arent going to like this but, thats what happens to American cars that have been here too long. Most dont know what they are doing with them and they get hacked.
Dude just figure out a way to get it to me & your check book and I'll tinker with it while you are out of town. You know my number!
