DFI or Ultimate

I'm totally new to this so I hope my question makes sense. Which provides the best performance DFI or the Ultimate chip? Or do they work together?

speedpro is the best bang for the buck for the novice tuner. Any aftermarket ECU will be worthless unless you have it properly tuned. Since the speedpro is plug n play, with wide band o2 and many other cool features it seems to be the computer of choice.

For a mild truck(especially stock injectors), the stock ecm with an ultimate chip works well. There is a 50# chip tuned for a mild cam and vortec heads that seems to work well for those who are not willing to do their own tuning also.

my website has some general info on the 2.

I was inquiring about DFI and the Ultimate chip because I'm headed to Germany and I was wondering what system would be the easiest to maintain for daily street use. The truck has the following mods: (Any suggestions)

Brodix Aluminim Heads, Kenne Bell Headers, Kenne Bell 20G Turbo 650cfm, Kenne Bell Air/Air Intercooler, Kenne Bell Cold Air Intake, ACCEL DFI,50lb Injectors, Walbro Fuel Pump, Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator, 3000 rpm Stall, Engine Bored .30 Over with Forged Rods and Forged Pistons, 1.6 Roller Rockers, Derale Tranny pan with Wings, Deltagate External Wastegate, Torque Converter Lockup Switch, Manual Boost Controller, 160 Degree Thermostat.

either take your truck to a dyno equipted with some sort of wide band 02 meter, or buy the speedpro. WIth your mods, i think aftermarket ECU is the way to go, since you loose the boost control feature in the ultimate having an external WG.

Your biggest gain will be with tuning, then I would suggest a decent turbo. If you need help mating up a good /3" downpipe let me know.

Wasn't this truck for sale on ebay today from S. Carolina? White w/ cowl hood?

Keep the DFI and get it tuned , learn how to tune... or throw the cash and get a Speedpro.

Speedpro is better than the DFI... DFI is not as user friendly... but it works... worked in my Typhoon.... worked in Guys 10 sec Syclone...

the DFI works when you get a wide band hooked up to it like you guys did

Either way, if you are not familiar with the tuning aspect. just nut up and pay someone expirienced. will save you soo much time and aggravation its silly.

Yea, its the truck that's listed on ebay. I'm thinking about making an offer on it, but I don't have experience with DFI tuning. The last ty I had it stayed pretty much stock. If I buy the truck and take it with me to Germany, I wanna be confident about keeping it tuned.

A DFI is easier to tune than a stock chip,
for the average Joe, as long as you know how
to tune the DFI. The Accell site has a good
manual on how to get started.

As many here have mentioned... if you don't
have a wide-band AFR meter, it's an uphill
battle.

If you're not comfortable with EFI tuning,
and you're moving overseas, I'd strongly
suggest letting this truck pass by. The setup
listed above isn't for someone just getting
into Sy/Tys and EFI tuning.

Later,

Dig

(Interesting aside - The DFI documentation
refers to a wide-band NTK option for the old
vintage DFIs... a special firmware rev. Not
sure if the beast actually existed, but it
would be neat if it did. Gen 7 has it now, of
course, but I was surprised to see it in the
old documentation)
