Do I need to be rich?

akwilks

Mr. Keith
In a few months I get my typhoon back from its 2 year hibernation. I drove it for about 3 months before its hibernation. So I ask, do I need to be rich to own and keep it on the road? Right now I can afford to keep it in storage but with this new better job I have, I think I'm ready.

Hey Arn....you'll be fine. Just drive it till you can't afford it and then give it to me.

Hell I know where a Sonoma GT is, that hasn't been driven in about 4 years, and you wouldn't believe me if I told you how much has been spent on it. It's more than a small third world countries GNP.

But, no you should be fine.

You aren't referring to the truck owned by the guy whose name rhymes with "Tarty" are you?

IMO it's kinda like the whole "fast/cheap/reliable: pick two" deal,... rich and/or patient, be at least one.

I'd be "rich" by now if I was never introduced to SyTy's. Or I guess you could say my net worth would be double...as I have owned a syty for 8 years. A 9 percent rate of return over those 8 years would have doubled my money.

Well I have spent over 4000 during the first couple months of ownership so she went into storage. Working on her is a bit intimidating......but sending her to a "mechanic" can be devastating...........

I was talking to this Tarty person, which describes him almost right on, and the value of the truck came up, although I knew how pricey it was, I didn't know it was that high.

You don't have to be rich to own or keep one on the road. But you do have to have a certain amount of love for these trucks. This helps if you think about it.

1. You have to be willing to spend time with them.

2. You have to be willing to spend money on them.

3. You have to be willing to, at times forget about everything else.

4. You have to be willing to work on them.

5. You have to be willing to bleed for them.

Come to think of it you have to be willing to treat them like your kids :rotf: .

When I had one as a daily driver, every 10k miles, it got cap rotor plugs fuel filter, damn it didn't like to run right, without that stuff.

Re: Do I need to be rich?

Poor man's way to own a SyTy:

1. Buy a stock truck in excellent condition and spread payments over 5 years.
2. Insure the truck with specialty insurance (~$300/year)
3. Drive it on occasion :)
4. Make friends with people who can fix SyTys
5. Then, save up some cash and fix things when you can ('cause even a truck in great condition will have problems)
6. Resist the urge to buy another

Sure, it's a little less fun, but it's comforting knowing the truck is almost always in good running condition and ready to go any time I want/need it.

Re: Do I need to be rich?

Hmm....So many rules.....I wonder if I can go after the seller for damages since he neglected to tell such important things? Come to think of it, the seller was practically rich so he'd probably have better lawyers anyway. Well I own my truck and I will keep it for better of for worse......

Re: Do I need to be rich?

If you want other people to work on it, you must be rich, or have nothing else to spend your money on.

If you do the work yourself (it will need work) then you can save some money.

They're not the most expensive hobby vehicle, but they're not cheap either.
