is it dancing at the 1st-2nd shift? That must be damn scary pilotting

ANY dancing by a vehicle when its already moving down track is scary. Whether its from an "excess" of power or a stiff breeze (when i went for my NHRA license), its wierd...normally you react before you consciously recognize what is going on..

Anyway, good job! Im downloading the video as I type this (56K) and I really cant wait to see this truck run in the 8's. Maybe invest in a helmet cam? Everybody loves the in-car view...(video is at 96%)

Ok, I just watched it. Was there any wind that day? It sounded like I heard wind as you were way down track, and it looked like it was all over the place (more characteristic of a head-wind than too much power when your that far down track) Other than that, the truck sounded good, and it didnt move around at the start like it did when you ran your 9.04...

I give it

Think you can go any quicker and NOT run an 8?

I say you should dial a 9. flat and go bracket racing.

Re: DOC HOOVER in Steele, MO 3/5/06

Hey I'd bracket race ya. I'd prolly only need a 4, maybe 4.5 second head start. Even then I think you'd get the hi 5's at the end. Absolutely awesome!!! Nice work.

NOTE: Some of us actually remember that a little more than 40 years ago Don Garlits wasn't that quick.

thanx! the truck spools very fast after the launch! its a ride-n-a-half to say the least!

i think we're goin to memphis saturday (3-11) and try it out, as long as it doesnt rain. we should be able to run 8.90s. should be interesting to see how it performs with a lb or 2 more of boost on the top end

Re: DOC HOOVER in Steele, MO 3/5/06

unfortunately no...... we went to the memphis motorsports park last nite and had some trouble with the motor. made one pass at 23 lbs of boost and went 9.54@141. truck felt TERRIBLE! didnt leave the line good, didnt accelerate good, just felt terrible. got the the end of the track about to go down the return strip and the truck went dead, wouldnt crank back up, wouldnt even turn over. had to get the 4-wheeler to pull it back to the trailor.

got back to the trailor and it still wouldnt even turn over. the motor was frozen up. but hey..... at least it didnt put a rod through the block or the oil pan.......

That sucks, I hope you guys are back at it soon. I guess you have to be ready for stuff like this to happen when your pushing the envelope. Hope it's nothing too serious. You guys have to get that 8.

definately mechanical but dont know exactly what yet? there was metal in the oil though. dad already has the motor out and ready to take to memphis. the man who will go through the motor is guessing rod bearings. we did have 6 new pistons put in the truck this past winter but that was the only thing that was changed. they had been in the truck several years. so we'll find out soon enough.

thanx we'll be back in a month or so i hope. just depends on how quick our motor man can get to it. and ur right, we were goin for an 8.9X and just came up short. did run 9.54 though with the motor quittin on us  the crazy thing is that we hadnt changed a single thing since the previous weekend, hadnt even touched the truck. we were gonna go for 8s with 23 lbs of boost bc we thought we could do it. hell, we'd come close several times b4. oh well......
