sy/ty's are a class 5 rating. same as corvette, porsche and so on. the only way to pay less is to just have laibility. not a smart thing to do when you have an expensive ride!

I have State Farm here in TX, and they go by VIN to get all the info about what vehicle you are about to insure. On my statement it says GMC Sonoma S-15 and i'm paying $135 per 6 months full cover. But i'm 40 years old with no accidents or speeding tickets. The class is 1 B 0, i paid $97 for laibility on my 1991 Eclipse Turbo AWD for 6 months class 1 A 0 and we are paying $188 for full cover on my wifes 98 Concorde LXi class 1 B 0.

I guess i'm lucky they don't see it as a class 5 vehicle?

swede, you better make sure they know what you have. if you have it insured as a s-10 and it gets totaled, you will get s-10 value! they could be dicks and say since it wasn't insured correctly you get jack!

My ins is with State Farm.I had a situation like Swede when i got mine. They originally told me like $200.00 every 6 mo & i told her to take that vin# and double, triple check that & understand what it is.They called me back 1hr later & said "that's classififed like a corvette wow it's a good thing u stayed on top of it cause if u needed something it wouldn't have paid for everything".
I'm 30 in 3 mo & my ins was 327 every 6 mo.I have a clean mvr no accidents or dui.
I canceled ins a few weeks ago trying to save a little $$,don't have any tags on it either but it's just sitting anyway cause i'm driving the STS all the time now. With my luck a freakin tree will fall thru the building or a tornado will come thru.

It make sense that it has the same class rating as a Corvette. Mine Sy is approx $50 less a year than my Vette. (Low $900's) My Vette is a convertible so that add a few $$$ to the comprehensive section (theft/glass coverage)

That's what i thought too, i mean, it's not my responsability to check the insurance agents if they there shit together. Like you sad the Sy VIN is on the policy, and that's what kind of vehicle the insurance are for. If SF have the VIN wrong in there list system, it's not my problem to fix it. It's like you go to the store and you find a product marked with the wrong price (much lower), do you a: tell the cashier that the price is wrong and ask to pay full price? or b: pay the marked price and think you got a very good deal?

I'm going to talk it over with my wife, but i doubth that i'm going to call SF saying, hey i want to pay more money for my truck insurance.

It's my understanding that State Farm doesn't have a "Typhoon" listing. My agent knows what it is, and I got a check for Typhoon parts from a recent small fender bender. It says S15 Jimmy on the card.

BTW - I have the Typhoon listed as a "pleasure" vehicle since it's not driven very much. Keeps money down and coverage stays the same.

HTH!

I have State Farm, and when I first insured it, it was listed as a Sonoma. I immediately called my agent and he indicated that as long as the VIN# is correct, it is the responsibility of insurance company to insure it properly. That was in California, I again went thru all of that when I moved to Nevada....same thing. I pay about $300 every 6 months.

well guys, i just did a quote from progressive ins. online. in there vehicle search sy/ty's come up. my quote with medium coverage was $407.00 every 6 mo. if i went with the basic it was $355.00 for 6 months. now this is oregon so some states might be less expensive. o-yea, this was full coverage.

Hey how old are you? When I called the insurance place they told me that I could have full coverage for a Typhoon, and liablity for a 86 s10 Blazer for $150 a month. So basically is came out to having the Typhoon as $50 a month, full coverage. I don't know if they made sure what kind of ride it was, but that's not my fault.

But keep in mind I also had them list it as a "Pleasure" as well, I'm only 17. I guess insurance varies from different states.

Maybe you all should Move to Idaho and get insurance here. !!!

Make sure the insurance companies actually inspect your vehicle also!! I have insurance through SafeCo. They initially insured the Sy as a S-15 Sonoma. I took several articles, and spec. sheets to my agent and they had an adjuster actually come and inspect the Sy. My Sy is now classified as Classic/collector so my mileage is limited each year. The real kicker though is they have it insured for $19k. I pay $65 a month for this coverage. I'm 34, married with a clean driving record.

I think I pay about 1,600 a year for full coverage on my SY. My insurance card says Syclone and I have my insurance with Windsor. My previous vehicle was a 1998 Camaro SS and it was about 600 dollers more. I was twenty when I sold my SS to get the SY. I am 23 now. When I was 18 I had a 1996 Cobra and the insurance was 4,500 a year with a clean record. Needless to say that didn't work out.

I dunno if its the same in all areas (Im sure its similar) but "non" moving violations CAN and do affect your insurance. Least its that way in WV and VA.. Running a red light/stop sign IS a moving violation BTW. Same as getting a speeding ticket in the eyes of the ins ppl.

Even getting a ticket for having a light out can raise youre rates. Mine went up $50 a year due to getting a ticket for having a headlamp out (went out the SAME day I got the ticket, new lamp was in the pass seat and still got a ticket... freakin prick). When I questioned the ins co about it they said its considered "unsafe driving habbits"... If they only knew...

Seat belt violations are the same here also. No points on your driving record but it gives the ins an excuse to raise your rates (unsafe driving habbits). BTDT..

These trucks are cursed
i wouldve bought a typhoon back in 97, there was a mint blk/blk 93 with 42000 miles, borla cat back and a bunch of mods i cant remember, the dealer was asking 22k. i had the money saved up for the down payment everything set to go... until it came time to get insurance! i called just about every single place in the phone book and no one would insure me with that truck, except one off brand place that wanted over 5000 a year. someone else ended up buying the ty, and i ended up getting a 94 S-10 blazer, the insurance on that was still 3300 a year! i dont think having my license on probation helped my insurance rates, especially when i need SR-22 filing, and had 12 points on my record. now all that shit is off my record and i havent gotten a ticket in almost 3 years (knock on wood) my ins rates on my sy are 93 a month, if i dont get anymore tickets, my insurance will drop to 70 a month in october. ins. co's just like to fuck ya for as much cash as possible, but when it comes time to pay it back, they're more than reluctant!

i know here in cali, just about everything goes on your record except for parking tickets. i heard that even window tint is now a moving violation and goes on your record, since its considered "an obstruction of vison", fuckin gov't bastards! anything for revenue and kick backs!
