does the pcm affect tranny shifts?

I brought my Typhoon to a local dealership (after I was assured they new what they were doing) to fix a rich running condition. They first installed a new O2 sensor and said the problem was partiaaly fixed but the various sensors wern't communicating so they installed a new PCM. Next phone call I get from them is that upon returning from a test ride their tech is saying the transmission is shifting extremely violent and its ready to break a mount and that I need a new transmission. The tranny was shifting perfect when I brought it to them (49000 mostly easy miles). Trying to determine if the PCM is doing this or just the sad fact they most likely pounded the snot out of it on the "test" drive.

It dose not control trans shhift only tc lockup. I would say get it far away from the dealership and fast there are plenty of us close by that could help you plus many people on here to ask. Are you sure they re not mistaken our hard shifting trans(probably because they have never driven in or worked on one) which is working properly for it being bad. Sounds like to me they have no idea about these trucks and are just guessing at what is wrong. I am not to far from ri if you wanted to bring it buy we could check it out see if the shifting is abnormal I also have datamaster we could run on your truck. There are also a couple of others around this area well versed in these trucks I am sure they will check this thread out.

Most dealerships no matter how much convincing still thinks its regular 4.3.

I can look at your truck, I am about 1 hour from Providence. I have work a bunch of local SyTy's. The transmission does shift hard, so maybe that is what they are thinking. The motor also do break, so god only knows how they treated your truck. The PCM (powertrain control module) is really an ECM (engine control module) and it only controls torque converter lockup. Even if the transmission does need a rebuild, you need to make sure to have your Ty tranmission rebuilt and rebuilt properly. The valve body is unique and lots of shop will discard the corvette upgrade parts thinking its a regular 4.3 transmission. GM does not have a correct replacement transmission.

Thanks Jay and Dave for your offers to look at my truck. The counter guy told me their transmission guy was gonna look at it on Monday and let me know. I already told them I won't touch the truck untill they correct whatever is wrong cuz if I do they'll say I broke it. This is friggin retarded, how friggen difficult is it for GMGW to work on a stock GM vehicle no matter how rare it is. Don't they just punch in vins and get instructions on how to proceed? I ain't askin for much here...not like I'm askin them to sort through 50 mods to diagnose and fix stuff...........its friggin STOCK. Can't wait to listen to these degenerate invalids with their imbacile Woonsocket RI accents try to explain what the problem is.

Well the transmission shifts fine, as stated before just a case of a clueless mechanic. So they wound up discovering I had an aftermarket chip wich I didn't know was in there. It says on it M27256-2Fi G88AB 9409 SINGAPORE and also a ST logo. Has an orange round sticker on it too. Hand written in black marker on the green mounting surface is "PA L.2". You guys have any idea what this is?

'M27256-2Fi G88AB 9409 SINGAPORE ST' This is just the type PROM chip you have. The PA L.2 is the programing that is inside of it. I have never heard of PA L.2

Owning a SyTy is like being a member of AA. You must only rely on those that are also members. Outsiders won't be any good and will typically throw you in the wrong direction quickly. "Wanna go for a drink?"

You might as well buy lotto tickets as go to dealer. In fact your chances of a good outcome are better with lotto tickets, than the dealer.

Could be dynotech.

I've seen factory chips with handwritten markings on them, so that's not a for-sure indicator. Take a digital picture of the ECM with the cover off, we'll try to ID.

Jay is right on the dime, dont let them do anything to the trans at all. When i 1st got mine i used to live in another city so my dad assumed it was wrong so he took the truck to his friend's tranny shop and him being a 2nd generation tranny man told him it was shifting way to hard and it was goin to break so he went and did i dont know what and left it granny shifts, needless to say the trans burnt less than 2k miles later.
