Thanks to everyone for attending yet another Dowd Summer SyTy Pool Party in horribly HOTTTTT! San Jose. I think we hit 111 degrees by mid afternoon and that is an all time record for as long as I've lived in San Jose and that goes back to 1966.
Special thanks to everyone who braved the heat in your very hot running trucks while also running A/C. It became fashionable once arriving at Tom's house to pop open the hoods immediately and let the engines cool off. I think the 11 or so trucks and one 2006 Caddilac V Series sport sedan owned by David Chooey (a.k.a Red Sy) and a Renault Le
Car, most likely raised the air temperature by several degrees. It was toasty to try and take a peek under the hood.
Many of you drove for several hours and I really want to thank you for making the trip in these conditions. Trucks owned by Mike, Don, Dean from SoCal and our newbie owner whose name escapes me right now so please excuse me for calling you the owner from Sacramento. As well as Keith Gee who returned to the party after missing a few years. I.J. you must have the record for attending every event in its 8 year history I think Tom told me this was?
We had many new faces from the bay area as well and I also appreciate your shorter drives but equally challenging in the opressive heat. We drank up 2 cases of bottled water gang and eat almost all of the 7, 4 foot long Togo's Deli sandwiches and by 5pm it was all gone and that's when some of you started heading for home and understandly so. By daylights end and still over 90 degrees Toms pool was a welcome sight.
Lastly and certainly not least, special thanks to Tom and Robyn for once again hosting this great annual summer event. Robyn was very understanding this year as we invaded her kitchen and home while seeking some small shred of cool air from their central air conditioning system.
For those of you reading this from areas outside California, I may seem like a whip over a little matter like 100 plus degree heat? But you have to remember this is not normal for central and Northern California by any means, centainly not for the 9 straight days the bay area has repeatedly hit 90+ degrees.
Special thanks to PG&E for keeping the California ISO power grid up and running even while approaching a stage two emergency power alert.
Thanks again everyone for making this years party a big success.
God Bless,
Mike
