Dyno Tune?

I'm giving some serious thought to putting the Sy on a dyno. There is a 4 wheel dyno not far. My basic idea is to tune for full throttle but having never done this I'm certainly open.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Thanks!

Re: Dyno Tune?

I personally don't like dyno's to tune. The load is never the same as on the street.

Your experience may vary, just my take on it. They are ok for finding peak hp/torque so you know where to shift though.

Re: Dyno Tune?

If its a dynojet you won't have much load on it. Many people report not being able to achieve full boost. If its a dyno dynamics, Mustang or Dynapaks the load is adjustable. I load mine so the vehicle sees load cells equal or higher to what it sees on the street. And equivalent boost levels.
Its a tool and like anything else if its not used properly, not a lot of worth.
It is nice to be able to make changes and see immediately if it helped or not.

Re: Dyno Tune?

Since I last checked (last year) the price has gone up. $150 for 3 pulls, $200 if I do any tuning between pulls. I think I'll put the money into tires...

Thanks all

Re: Dyno Tune?

Owning a dyno. I pay attention to what other shops charge around the country. Have seen prices as high as $300 an hour. I can't believe people pay it. On average I see $150-200 per hour. I charge $120 an hour for AWD and $100 for 2WD if they are doing their own tuning. 3 runs for AWD is $80 and 2WD is $65. With wideband and map sensor connected if they want.
Many more people end up using the dyno when its affordable and makes sense. The more hours a customer spends on the dyno it works in their favor. Which to me is only right. I get tuners who bring in their customers cars and spend 3-4 hours or more. Sometimes swapm and test parts or make multiple maps for differnet fuels.
Its one thing to make money with a dyno and stay in business. Its another to rob people.

Re: Dyno Tune?

I am open to Syclones or any AWD r 2wd vehicles that want to use the dyno. No I don't use it as my primary income. Design products for private label for other companies. But do run the dyno a lot in cooler weather. Slows up a lot in the summer months. Although diehards always show up regardless of the heat.
I am dissappointed in what I constantly hear out of car enthusiasts and their dyno experiences. Its bullshit that so called shops treat customers like that. Time is money but with the same token of thought. You gain more than a customer by treating them right. Only makes sense to treat them as you would want to be treated. Years ago I had many bad experiences with so called dyno shops. So much so when I was doing some testing for magazine articles. Knew then when I got my own I would be a little more understanding of what people really want. Service.
I don't have a timer tripping the beams the second a car comes in. Nor do I tack on charges for the wideband. As long as a person has an idea of how long they are going to be on, they know up front what price range they will be in. Makes things so much easier.
Its a tool. Useful as anything I have used. Years ago I road tuned everything. All I could do. Sure you can tune for optimum air fuel and timing. But it sure is educational and fun to be able to test setups and parts, back to back to back. Sure can save a lot of time in the long run.

There was talk of the 2009 nationals being in Vegas? That would be interesting to see some trucks on the dyno.

Re: Dyno Tune?

a friend of mine here in az knows the guys at Vivid Racing, i know nothing about them and no idea what kind of dyno they have, other than its awd. i want to put my truck on their dyno to tune, but im afraid they wont even know what a syclone is. I am not trying to blow it up while trying to tune it.

Syclone3 did you tune your truck on your dyno or street tune, i know most guys on this board street tune and have amazing results, but they know what they are doing

Re: Dyno Tune?

I haven't burned any chips for the Syclone yet. Have only done runs on my dyno with my own trucks. We tune a lot of EVO's and STI's and many other AWD vehicles.
Vivid racing has a Mustang dyno, same model as mine only a bit older. A friend of mine used to work there for a few years as their tuner. They have a younger fellow now running the dyno. They pretty much only know imports.
