E-fan upgrade?

Is an electric fan upgrade good on a sy/ty? It seems it would free up some horsepower, save the waterpump some effort, and maybe help spool the turbo faster with less drag on the engine. If so which setup works best? I had a dual fan setup from the f-body on my s-10 and it worked really well, i hear that flex-a-lite also has a swap.

Opinions?

Thanks,
Adam

Yeah, most E-fans out there dont flow over 2500cfm. But i think they were saying the Ford one flows like 5000cfm. Theres a post some where on here that has a step by step on how to mount the ford one, do some searching.

Flex-a-lite 210's also make a good choice!

What year taurus can I pull the fans out of? Or what year/make/model of cars should I be looking for at the junkyard that will have a high cfm fan?

I'm poor.

I had used the dual ls1 f-body setup on my s-10 before. Will they also work well on the sy/ty if i install the 160* thermo?

Checked out this fan and I see they have it available with custom wiring harness too. Will this work with the Ty and be a plugin type application or is easier to just buy the fan separate and wire it directly? Also, I live in Southern Cal where we see triple digit heat in the summer time. Will this fan setup be a improvement in terms of lower engine temps in extreme conditions.
Thanks

Jedi...I assume there is enough room for your RPM IC plumbing with this turbo buick fan setup? It is their A/A system, correct?

on the ramchargers fan... do you keep the shroud? how is it mounted? i went to the site and looked at the pic. tabs on the side... ar these thru holes for zip tie style mounts? thanks.

I used these fans with the RPM A2A and had perfect clearence, and that was with a 3" thick Griffen Radiator. These would leave you plenty of room with the RPM and McCoy A2A with the stock radiator.

The tabs on the side have to be trimmed off with a cut off wheel as you will not need them to mount the fans. You simply use a hayden radiator fan mounting kit. (4) over priced zip ties $15 in each corner of the shroud. (pepboys or O' Rielys).

The stock fan shroud is taken out and use turbotime's upper polished mount and the factory mounting tabs for the bottom of the radiator without the shroud.

The "plug in" connector is not used and is only for GN's. You simply wire up a relay and can use the IC pump orange wire to trigger the relay to turn on the fans at 160F. (only available with the ultimate 50# versions) or just use turbotime's fan relay kit with temp sensor.

The fans have a dual speed "hi and low" and can wire up the high speed wire for use when your AC is turned on, or with a switch. low speed is triggerd by a temp sensor or IC relay as mentioned above.

I've seen the fans work on "low" speed with no cooling problems or voltage problems on a factory alternator. But i would recomend getting a higher amp alternator. And with the high speed it's a must. Both fans operate togather in "low and high" not that one on, both on bullshit.

Ya that pretty much sums up everthing, plain and simple these fans are best you can get for our application and are very inexpensive.

thanks for that informative post. my question was if it is essential to remove the stock shroud since i wont be using an a2a like on eriks setup. if the thing is mounted with zip ties then am i to assume that the shroud is removed for clearance issues? the reason i ask is because that sheet metal upper mount doesn't look like it supports the intake crossover tube very well and it tacks $45 onto what started out to be a good deal.

Well, the fans wont fit behind the stock shroud. I dont see it being a problem using turbotime's polished upper mount, the support for the stock intake is most reliable where it's box is bolted to the core support on the driver's side, plus the flexible hose from the turbo to crossover. You will be fine using the factory intake. If your worried about spending another $50 bucks on the support then just make your own or cut the stocker up. but why would you want to cut up factory parts anyway.
