E85 price ballance? feeling the gas crunch

the price of gas here in NC is now $315 a gallon (premium). its so expensive to drive the syclone at that rate. im not sure if its like this all over the US, but the cost of E85 here doesnt seem to follow the price of gas now that gas has become so expensive. when the price of gas shot way up last time, the E85 only moved marginally in price. Has the price of oil gone up so much that ethanol is now cheaper to make and use? E85 is only $2.69 and 105 octane. i did the math last fall and all my numbers (when averaged) indicated that it was a wash on price to run E85 vs. premium. the E85 was cheaper, but my milage went down considerably leaving no real advantages other than octane. now that the price of gas has greatly exceeded E85 its a wash to run E85 vs regular, and its significantly cheaper to run E85 vs premium. iv been driving around on E85 constantly for almost a year now. this decision was mostly made because of the high octane rating, and the new motor that i built was a 9:1 motor rather than 8.5:1....... although there are other reasons as well.......got tired of making the arabs rich, and liked the idea of putting some cash back into my own country. the emissions is susposedly much better, but i wouldnt know as iv never done any testing on my truck, and i dont really trust other peoples research unless i can come to the same conclusion on my own testing. if you havnt noticed none of the automanufacturers are doing flex fuel turbo motors. i also have a bike now that i ride when its not raining and it gets incredible gas milage. my E85 conversion costed me about $200 and the 1998 yamaha R1 i bought was about $2500. so i really didnt have much cash invested when i started trying to minimize my gas expenses. if i drive both about half the time i get around 25-35 mpg average depending on how hard i drive em and an average fuel price of about $3 a gallon. i had previously been daily driving my syclone over the winter with no significant reliability issues, but gas is so crazy expensive. its nice to ride the bike as much as possible. especially when its warm out..... iv become very fond of 2 wheels, and at this point i like riding the bike more than cruising the syclone, but i refuse to ride if the weather forcast has any possibility of rain. :)

Gas is $3.17/gal here for 87. A couple months ago, I bought the wife a '96 Accord to drive to and from work. It's about 40 miles each way, and the 17mpg in the '06 Envoy wasn't cutting it. Plus, we put 21k miles on it the first 7 months I had it. I never really looked, but I don't think the 4.2L six is a flex fuel engine. Plus, E85 is hard to find here, especially on my side of town.

Premium is about $3.70 here. you guys are lucky. :tdown: Regular here is more than premium is for you there. The price you pay for the good life. :rant:

$2.69 for 87 & $2.84 for 93 here. I drive 14 miles a day and press my brakes twice (once when arriving @ work and once when getting home), so you'll probably never hear me complain about maintenance or fueling costs. :D

same here around chicago $3.70 for 87 octane , didnt even bother to check what how much 100 octane was for the 59. price gouging bastards........

E85...I wouldn't even know where to get that stuff if I wanted it. I think that is a major issue in most places. I mean, its not like its at every gas station as an option. How can I even go about finding a place who has it?

Premium is about $3.35 around here. I get a measley 3 cent off each gallon with my discount card. I drive about 12 miles round trip to and from work on the freeway. It pissed me the whole way off the first time I paid over $50 to fill the Ty.

3.15 is a good price right now. Currently NY prices for 93 are 3.50 and up. Last year i paid 3.89 for REGULAR!

Its about $3.09/3.19 here in central Jersey. Local WaWa sell it for 2.96 right now so i am all over them. 93octane!

We're paying $3.30 for 91 right now. There is only one whole station selling E85. $3.09 a gallon. What a damn sham this country is turning out to be. OK, not the country, the oil industry, wish I wouldve invested a long time ago. Ive always wondered what would have to be done to make Hydrogen work in a truck like the Typhoon.

the reason you cant find this fuel everywhere is because of the oil industry. a lot of the chain stores selling gas are owned/partially owned by the oil companies with only the convenient store owned by the locals, or in some cases even that is owned by the oil company. the mom and pop gas stations are a thing of the past. the oil business has greatly exceeded what a mom and pop business is capable of competing in. the oil industry isnt required to provide ethanol as a form of fuel where they offer gas, and really has no interest in doing so because the money they stand to lose by selling a product that they do not make, thats a cheaper replacement for the product they do make. this is most likely the same reason that in some palces the E85 is always priced the same as regular gas regardless of how expensive gas becomes. (the cost of manufacturing ethanol does not fluctuate with the price of gas) the politicians have interest in oil because of the pocket lining they recieve from the oil companies.... some of them even own oil companies...... so the roll out of the ethanol supply is embarisingly slow. politicians are quick to tout the tax brakes given to business to cover the instalation of E85 equipment, but if you havnt noticed, not many are biting. we have one station with in an hour of here. id love to see a more aggressive strategy from the government for equiping us the individuals with this great new fuel that they claim to be pusing so hard. for all the talk they are doing about it, i dont see a whole lot happening. i took a trip to the chevrolet dealer about 6 months ago and asked the sales manager if he was gonna start offering any flex fuel trucks. he said almost every new truck on the lot was ordered with the flex fuel option, but said good luck finding the gas anywhere around here. if i was george bush id be embarised to do all that talking on tv about ethanol, knowing that all these people are driving around in american made flex fuel cars and trucks with no where to fill up.

Here in Puerto Rico I pay 79 cents a Litter for premium. And they told me in the summer its going to be $1.00 a L. It sucks i remember when i use to fill my truck up with $25.00.
