Re: Ed Hess in GMHTP Nov Issue

alex and i understand. :)

fwiw i can tell you how we got in to the mag.

in 2005 i sent them a pic and only 1 paragraph to get their attention.

told them what we had done in the past, what we we currently doing and future plans.

got a response to send them more pics as we got further along.

sent them these but never heard much back.

Fianlly got a response from them when they saw my John force burnout pic.

I sent them that and figured if this doesnt get their attention and get them off the fence nothing will.

! week later they sent me an email to schedule a photo shoot.

what i am saying here is it was basic marketing with a proven product that got it to happen.

did the same thing in 2004 when we got featured on garrets turbos website as their ride of the month.

keep it short and sweet with something unique .

thanks guys

hope you all enjoy it.

means a lot to harry and I to get this published.

now we gotta go knock off a few rounds of 8's so they have to do a follow up to the article. lol :)

btw.... y'all dont know how hard it was to keep from posting about this when they did the photo shoot.

the photo shoot was 2 1/2 hours one saturday and the next sunday was 3 more hours.

Photo shoots are like watching paint dry also, very boring.

Nice job Ed you deserve the recognition for hard work.

.

i actually enjoyed watching scott parker work and do his thing.

I have done a great amount of underwater macro (extreme closeups) in the past while scuba diving using my nikonos RS w/ 50mm lense and teleconverter & sb104 strobe.

So watching a pro working with lighting and angles to get that perfect shot of the subject is kinda neat from my experience.

We need to be nice to GMHTP. We can't expect Sy/Ty coverage every issue, there just aren't enough of us. What other magazine gives us any coverage? Maybe if someone sends some photos and a short story, we can get some Nats coverage in an upcoming issue. Like a half page and a couple photos. We can't expect much, they weren't at Nats 06'. If Nats X is going to be Big, maybe they will return.

I think the main reason Scott wasn't able to come back this year is because he had too much fun in 05. Right?

That's what I heard, but they could have sent someone else. Not sure what we do about Scott having too much fun. I thought the whole point was to make sure he had a good time. What do we do next year, if he shows up? Send him to his hotel room at 10pm? If he had THAT good a time, maybe next year he'll take vacation time and show up anyway.

I think it's more likely they would do individual truck profiles (ideas submitted by us) than to cover the nats again. Even though it's our one big event, you just don't see GMHTP covering the same event twice...especially a few years apart.

Think of all the F-body, Chevy, and Buick events that are going on that never get double coverage, and of all the events that have yet to get one-time coverage in the mag.

Re: Photo Shoots. I agree with Ed. It's cool to watch professionals work. When the guy (not Scott) shot the trucks for Dec. '05 issue, he was VERY creative in coming up with different settings for each car/truck. I had reeeal trepidation about shooting my truck in that toxic waste dumping ground  , but when I took a step back and looked at it from the photographer's eyes, I knew it would turn out cool. (we did had to remove the glass, nails, metal shards, etc. before I parked it there.)

I JUST yesterday got my magazine in the mail. I have subscribed for a year. They must be mailing in alphabetical order. The article is great. Imagine, our little trucks keep on impressing the performance writers.

Great going Ed!!!!!

Looking good Ed.

So how many times did they note that it was NHRA certified in the article?
I thought that was amusing.

Re: Ed Hess in GMHTP Nov Issue

I just got my issue finally. It came on Thursday. Damned fine setup you have there Mr. Hess. The turbo intakes peeping out through the headlight holes looks pretty maniacal. Love it!

This is the first Sy/Ty I've seen featured since my sub started and I was pretty pleased. I still think they could give us a lil more coverage but I guess there aren't all that many trucks running Hess/Hoover'esque times. I hope this article prompts some others to try and get theirs in the mag. I haven't had my Ty long enough to do anything worth mentioning but this next year all that will change and I'll be looking to shop it around to some mags.
