Elastic strap connected to the console

Ok, I took apart the console and I see these little clips holding an elastic strap that runs on the outside of the console between the passenger seat. It is all streched out and the elastics is crumbeling off of it so, I removed the clips and pulled this strap off. What the hell is this thing for?

i think its for the seatbelt.

I had a strap like that which was holding my passenger seat belt buckle to the side of the console... not sure if it's the same one. I'll take a picture and post it tonight.

its probably like a map/magazine "pocket" thingy...kinda like the things on the visors for letters and whatnot.

its not.

like someone said before, its simply to keep the seatbelt in place.

i removed mine long ago, along with the elastic on the visors, no problems here.

its not.

like someone said before, its simply to keep the seatbelt in place.

if its for the seatbelt...why isent there one on the dr.side of the console?

might have something to do with the fact that whenever the vehicle is in motion, the driver "should" be wearing their seatbelt, thus it doesnt need any support while moving. It could (but probably not) have something to do with the drivers seat being power operated. I dont work for GM, i dont know why they didnt put one on both sides.
