electric dump ?

i was just looking at the old topic in the GP section, and it looks like most of the people that bought those had the PTE setup...

i would think this is a pointless mod on a stock truck, if i installed it after the cat, but to install it before the cat, id have to cut into my DP right?

anyone already done this, and have any feedback?

TIA

yeah i thought about that...

but since theres so many tree huggers in California, we have to pass smog/inspection, every other year... it would just be a pain in the ass to mess with it.

2 years ago, i didnt pass smog cause i had a KB cold air intake, i had to go home and put all the stock shit back on, and do a retest.

California= nice weather, hot chicks, shit government

I thought that if you removed the cat on a stock truck, or a truck with an ATR Pitpull chip, the boost would spike. Am I wrong? If that is completely wrong, I'm going to look in to putting an electric dump on the Ty.

It does spike when you do these things to a stock truck. You just have to watch the boost gauge any time you decide to show off. I find boost doesn't start to become unacceptable until you get base boost levels of around 18psi or higher. Then spikes are horrible because there is too much flow for the stock wastegate to handle.

you will definately see less steady boost, but it isnt as bad as completely removing that cat, b/c some of the exhaust is still filtered through the full exhaust. I had the biggest problem when punching it on the freeway and with an open dump it would bury the boost needle. If drag racing it would hoover at 18-21, whereas with the dump closed it would make 17psi.

well i do have ITS mini gate on the crossover, but it seems like its a waste of time and 200 bucks, if im only going to have boost problems, and get 3lbs of boost if it works right...

yes?

Re: electric dump ?

So could i run an electric cutout with a manual boost controller as my method of boost control? And not worry about boost spikes?

Re: electric dump ?

Im running a QTP elec. cutout and I made a short pipe after my fornt wheel looks bad ass and sounds bad ass works well and with my GT35-R makes it spool off line way fast 0 to 10 psi like not a problem...

The issue is not the boost controller, but the wastegate itself. You can run a hybrid turbo such as the garrett bolt turbo on we sell, a pte or rpm turbo kit, or install a external on the x-over. Some have also sent their stock turbos in for machine work and a larger wastegate flapper to be installed, but if your going through that much trouble you might as well upgrade.

Re: electric dump ?

Yeah I believe the 34mm mod to the stock wastegate resolves the overboost issue with stock turbos and open exhaust.. or simply a mini gate like mike has said.

Open exhaust on a stock truck (ecm, wastegate etc.. ) will over boost and such big time.

Re: electric dump ?

I have that 20g 8cm2 frankenstein turbo from turbochargers.com, but as far as the wastegate goes, its probably the same as the stock one right?
