Extremely strange event

This weekend at the midwest meet, we had 5 syty's running on saturday, with the SLOWEST being a 12.9 (and that was on 12psi too!!) !!! I don't think i've ever experienced anything like it, not having anything really broken. Brett did eventually win for best break, snapping his propshaft on a 17psi launch that looked mean as all hell. Sunday was hotter and we all ran slower, but it was a great time. Thanks to dig for bringing the grill and to his dad for the brewskies. Ran into a familiar face some of you may remember, christofferson showed in his srt-4, funny stuff. Thinking about another in october for cooler air, ya'll should come out!

Bitchin!! What's going on Dan? You guys are going to have your own Nats pretty soon....Texas needs to get something like that going soon..... What are the details on the 12.9, 12psi syclone?

Did anything ever happen with christofferson's srt4? Wasn't it revving up on it's own?

Re: Extremely strange event

Hey servando, how's it going in texas nowadays? Well, the 12psi was a ty, anthony's actually. He was running e85 right b4 he came to the track, then switched his stuff over to the stock injectors. His truck boogied. Everyone's did for how hot it was. Justin ran a 12.47 i think, i managed a 12.21, brett a 11.6 so it was nice, but wierd they all ran!
Mark's neon <-- haha ran a 14.1 or .2 pretty much all day on sunday when it was hotter out. His car didn't act up and he didn't even take the time to throw on drag radials. All in all, a good showing. He, you should make the drive for october!! i've done that one, and it's not all that fun.

Hey Dan, don't forget about blue-oval-boy running 10.76 in his cobra...

Had Paul raced on Saturday, I'm sure we could have had 3 of each run under 13.0. Both of the GNs ran under 12.5 as well. They didn't fare so well by the end of the weekend, though.

It was a good time. Henry even enjoyed himself, especially since he got to go pantsless half the time :)

It's a ratty lookin' Ty. The 12.9 @ 105.5 was with the minigate set to base boost. It spiked to 18 once, but then settled back down around 12. I have the comp 422 cam, so that helped a bit. I didn't have time to tune it, so I kept the boost down. I'll try to be a bit more aggressive in October.

Re: Extremely strange event

Stock propshaft, I presume, correct? Just wondering cause all these snapped propshaft stories have me sold on a new Gilbert shaft.

Re: Extremely strange event

Yeah anthony, i think henry was loving the attention and the no pants thing! haha. I think I'm going to be a force to be reckoned with in october too:turbo:

Actually Jeremy, Brett's shaft(that sounds so bad) is rebuilt to be stronger than the average bear's. He says it's one of the strongest shafts avail, but then again with a 17 psi hooked launch, i can see why it took a leave of absence. The track was hooking really well on Sat.

Re: Extremely strange event

Thanks for the info Dan...this certainly underscores the need for an upgraded propshaft. I'll order the Gilbert piece next week and just be done with it.

If there is a picture of that, I'd like to see it. If I'm ever stranded without any IC brackets, at least I'll know what the perfect combination of hose clamps and zip ties is to hold 20+ psi :) I gotta admire your tenacity in getting that thing to hold together, though.

Re: Extremely strange event

Did the torched propshaft ruin anything other than the propshaft? That could have been a bad explosion. Good to hear from you again Dan. The Ty you and Brian checked out for me is still going well. Still has the whining rear end too, hehe.

Re: Extremely strange event

Hey kidder, no the propshaft snapped inside the ball and socket joint and stayed contained within the cup. It was really lucky actually. He took it out and tried to do a smokey and then run, but it didn't work out so well.
Glad to hear the ty is still kickin. How many miles on that now? I figure, hey if it works, why try and fix it. the rear end is fine, almost like another slow bleeding blow off valve!

Re: Extremely strange event

That's lucky. I hear "broken driveshaft" or propshaft and all I can think is a piece of metal twirling around underneath, destroying everything around it. The Ty''s got around 133k on it. I've been driving a POS saab I bought on long trips to save the 13 mpg @ $2.60/gallon. I finally got my first Ty put back together and fired up, which is nice. Glad to hear everything is good out there. Take care.

Yeah, that was fun. Let me know when the one is in October, I'm in for sure. By then, I should have my parts too, so it won't be a complete turd. My best run last weekend was a 14.08 in 100% showroom stock trim. I'm sure it would have went 13's if we had even half-ass weather instead of racing when it's blazin hot and 90% humidity, but whatever. Or maybe I'll bring one of the omni's. Anyway, yeah, you'll have to let me know when you go up there again, I'm in.

93ty475, Hmm, not sure where you heard that, that my car was running funny? I did have to have the TPS replaced under warranty, but that was almost a year ago.

P.S. I was looking at Sy's again last week. The SRT is almost paid for, so then it'll be time for another toy. Not sure what it's gonna be. I want another Syclone, but I've found a couple sweet 03 Cobra's like Larson's and a couple Vipers that are within my price range aswell, so we'll see. The vipers look pretty tempting. They're older, like 96-97's but they all still have like under 40k miles, and for under $30k, they are affordable.

Re: Extremely strange event

For all interested, the october event is the 8TH, a saturday and racing is from 11am to 5pm. This is the street legal thunder again, so same rules and tech applies as last time. Dig is hoping to be running by then too, so that should be fun.
P.S. chirstofferson, you could always quit buying cars and buy a house:D you poop squirrel:rotf:

Re: Extremely strange event

A couple of guys are getting together in the St Louis area in September for some street legal racing at Gateway.(although nobody has comitted yet) I don't know if anything has ever been organized before in the area but maybe we could get something started. Test and Tune racing is Tuesday nights every week and they even have a couple organized events with trophies and such. You can read about it HERE.

We could make it the first Tuesday of each month so everyone knows when to expect a fellow SyTyer there. My place is open for an afternoon BBQ before racetime. I am just 15 min. away from the track. For September it's tentatively planned for the 6th but may be pushed back to the 13th. Maybe I should start a thread?
