Feedback of items I have purchased from members here

Syclone Rob

Its all ABOOT the SYTY eh
Hey all, As some of you may know that I have been getting some 'performance upgrade' parts for my Syclone. I have the major stuff installed and running... In this thread, I want to give feedback on the items. The good and the bad. This is not a bashing thread, just my feedback for people that may be looking for the same items I have purchased and want to find out how others fealt about them. (if this is in the wrong forum, please move)

1. JWaller:
57mm Stock Turbo upgrade
John was great to deal with. There was a small delay in shipment but I was notified about the situation. Turbo came fast, packed with lots of cushion. Though he forgot the fittings (which he has sent out as I right this) Though, it didn't come with the wastegate actuator as it shows in his thread. I had to move my stock one over. The Wastegate lever where the actuator rod goes on, the hole which you put the pin thru was stuck with metal. I could not get it out with pliers. I just drilled it out no problem. Installation is just the reverse of the stock turbo removal.

Turbo runs mint. Everything that John says in the above thread is true. Way faster on building boost. Currently my truck is on the stock chip again (temporary) and man does my truck haul ass!!! From low range all the way to 14.7psi, it just hauls!! (with no detination!!) Thanks John

2. JSManufacturing
a. 3" Stainless Downpipe. This is a great peice!! I would recommend this to guys and gals running stock type turbos, too bad currently JSM is not making any. Very well made, The welds are amazing with great penetration. It fits in truck as described.

Two things that I didn't like. First being lip inside the downpipe near the turbo flange where JSM added a elongated section to cover the service hole for the wastegate. This part had a huge lip which to me seemed like it would cause a restriction. Its an easy fix, took me about an hour to grind down.

Second, was the holes on the turbo flange were just a hair off. I first thought that it was just a build variance on the turbo but once Johns turbo arrived, it was the exact same thing. Once again easy fixes and this should not be a deterant. Since the pipe comes in 2 peices (the only way to get it into the truck) he does not include a clamp for that. It works great, Sounds awesome, O2bung is placed properly. Glad I was part of this GP!!

b. Solid motor mounts. Man, just like the DP, awesome quality. Comes in a black finish. Requires moroso v8 mounts. You will need to get new bolts since the stock bolts are too long. Very cheap at your local fastener retailer. So far it holds the motor in place. I will never have to worry about the upper rad hose!!

You do get some vibrations while in idle. Other then that its faily smooth. Just a PITA to install!!

3. RaceProvenMotors.
3" Stainless Catback Exhaust: This is a very nice piece that I would highly recommend. I went with the muffler and the 3" midpipe since I wanted a total 3" system front to back. Even my exhaust guy was impressed with the quality of workmanship. It came all polished... Man, I could just lay there and stare at it. Intructions are easy to follow. Comes with all hardware to mount and hang (though, IMO the stock hangers suck, not Mike's fault!!) With the JS dp and a hi flo 3" cat, I just had to add about 9" of stainless pipe in my application to make it all fit together. (remember a somewhat custom application) Fit and finish is awesome. And now my truck gives the perfect rumble, not too loud at all... actually still fairly quiet and gives a nice rumble at idle, and a nice noticeable rumble under WOT. I have no cabin resonation which is a bonus!!!. I will try to get a sound clip real soon.

4. SonomaGTlover:
Volvo Fan Kit with Fan. I have just installed this about 2 weeks ago.... Very nice piece. It came as described. Fit and finish were very good. The instructions are detailed. Comes with all the hardware required. Though my fan arrived with a cracked section on the bottom corner. Upon further inspection, it looked like it happened during transit. Its no biggie as it was easily repaired. I also went with the DC (Delta Current) controller (http://www.dccontrol.com/) as that was what he was using and it works great. It keeps my engine temps where I want them. You don't get the on off cycle.... just runs the fan at various speeds to keep the engine at temp. Not very loud. (stock was loud enough) I even ran a switch to the dash so if I wanted run the fan at max speed, I can do so. Or if I want to run the fan while the engine is off.

5. PPI Typhoon:
SyTy ALDL Cables. This is a must have item (or one similar to it) for you SyTy'ers. He did awesome creating these. This came very fast, built very well.. Came with a very long red and black lead so you have enough to place it anywhere you want. (Mine is in the glove box) Works just as described and it came with the serial cable!!

I will try to get pics and video on here when I can. Comments are welcome.

Re: Feedback of items I have purchased from members here

good write up. I have the same items also with about the same results. I have bought about 40 items for my truck and noticed that nothing for the syty's are a direct bolt on. most take some minor work but worth it in the end. Sounds like you are doing some good mods to the truck. keep it up and us posted.

Good write up, thank you for the feedbacks on these products.
Your sy setup is pretty much how I want my ty to be.
Your 1/4 mile time, is it with all those mods u have listed as well?
I am aiming for 12's EVENTUALLY  this setup seems like a good solid foundation for that...and still streetable

How do you like the ride on the lowering springs compared to blocks (if you've had blocks before)??

I never had blocks so I can't comment on that. The only reason I went this way is because of others I have read that said blocks give you a harsh ride. These springs are a little firmer then stock. It gives me a nice planted feel as I drive.
