Can't beat the thermal advantages I say just do it.

But don't drive it in the rain.

Never ever.

Ive had mine out for years now. I dont DD mine either.

Ive been caught in the rain a few times however. I make sure my filter is fully soaked in oil and if it starts to heavy downpour, I do and have pulled off the road or sat under an underpass.

Do sand, tar, and puddles make a big mess?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Never had tar go up under the hood. If I go down a dirt road, then yes sand/dust becomes an issue...even when you go slow, which I do.

Puddles...welp, I dont drive through them, but the times Ive gotten caught in rain, you'd think it would make a big mess, but my experience is that it just leaves a bit of sand on the underside of my hood and a bit up on the AC box on the firewall. Other than that, good to go.

I also keep my engine bay as clean as possible with polishing/paint/black chrome, so when dirt does get in, there is some sort of barrier to help keep it clean.

Re: Fenderwells removed

Occasional road debri, rocks, etc could be an issue. I ran my Chevelle w.o. fenderwells for a short time. If you drive your Sy frequently then you'll definitely see added dirt so forth in your engine area and underside of your hood.

Re: Fenderwells removed

I wonder if there's any correlation between cracked passenger side exhaust manifolds and hitting a puddle (just someones sprinklers. Doesn't have to be raining) with the inner fender removed? RH manifolds are becoming scarce and expensive. Why risk it?

Maybe. Also throw in the factor that all the trucks that have the access flap torn out too.

The only time my truck ever comes out nowadays is meets and going racing. Ive only been caught 3 times in the rain since taking mine out 6-7 years ago? Since I know I dont have fender wells, I do pay more attention to the road to avoid potential problems.

Dave has seen my truck in person...while I dont have a full on award winning engine bay, for a truck that gets beaten on heavily and driven like Im in Rolex race on public roads, it's pretty damn clean.

Re: Fenderwells removed

Not to get off topic. But the only reason I ran my Chevelle fenderwell-less was because my car had the hard plastic inner fenders. At the time, I had a hard time locating them. Do they make plastic inner fenders for our bodies Sy, Ty, S10/15...?? Obviously I know stock SyTy inner fenders are metal. Just curious. By the way Adam, your engine bay looks wicked clean. Props!

I plan to put mine back in...but with only a few of the bolts...just enough to hold them in place.

Older thread I know......

Interesting idea, I built a vacuum table and made inner fenders for my nova out of abs for weight savings. Is there enough demand for abs s-10 inners and what would they be worth to somebody.

On my v8 s10 I drilled a ton of 1/4inch holes in the wheel well over the a-arm. It actually helped it cool by allowing the air through the rad to exit by the headers. Still served as some protection from bigger rocks and most of the water.

Hmm. If you could louver them for venting, me thinks that would be pretty cool....and Id actually consider putting a set in if they were fairly priced.

Re: Fenderwells removed

Louvers could be done easy enough (in my head anyways), my buddy bought a single 2 inch die years ago I could use. I would have to stamp the steel part, form over it, then cut the openings. Of course it would be cheaper if I shipped them uncut and let the buyer do it. It could turn into a nightmare me not having a turbo truck and pressing each one keeping it all aligned. I do like the louver idea better and might have to steal it. As for price ill have to check on plastic costs for sheets big enough. Last ones I got they didn't give the stuff away and that's been a few years ago. Correct me if I'm wrong as its been years since I was under the hood of a ty but the inners are the same as the rest aint they?

I can justify a set of $200+ inners for myself if I wanted them. I can't however 4 sets sitting on the shelf cause 6 people promised they wanted a set and 2 paid.

Always the option of fiberglass also, then steel inserts could be molded on. They would also not have the wrinkles of a stamped steel part. Both materials worry me being close to the turbo. Anybody arky guys willing to let me get some measurements of your clearances for this project?
