Finally got one

Hi All,

Just got a new Typhoon a couple weeks ago #2243

http://s1148.photobucket.com/albums/o573/jwebby/

This thing has a ton of mods (wish it didn't) and before I ran an entire tank of gas through it the transmission started gushing! I bought it from a used car dealership and they had just replace the motor and turbo. Its looks good but I'm worried now that the shop that put the motor in not only screwed up something with the transmission but just did a half @$$ job.

I've got it in a really good shop now and they are gonna tell me if the R and R did the trans in.

I was hoping when I get the truck back some of you veterans could help me figure out all thats been modded and help me get this truck running as it should. I'm mechanically inclined having been a Cadillac tech for 7 years before changing careers but would love to not have to learn things the hard way with this truck. I'm in the Seattle area by the way

Re: Finally got one

Is this the one w/ red decals that's been for sale in the Monroe-area for a few years now? Congrats on the purchase either way. You're in luck, as far as meeting all the Seattle-area locals. We're trying to come up with a date to organize a meet.

Yep... It's the one. I had a CafFax request in when I saw it on CL 10 times... WHEW!

So... more pics? We've only seen the same 4 over and over. ;)

p.s. Congrats!

That is one nice looking Typhoon. Whats the deal with the wheels, looks like 11s in the rear? What size spacers are on it?

Re: Finally got one

Yep its from Monroe.

I traded a 68 Chevy shorty and they gave me a decent price.

I'll take some more pics when I get it back from the shop, still no work on the Transmission :(

Whoever made all the mods must have had some idea of what they were doing so far it looks like an adjustable fuel psi reg, MSD box, TPS, New Turbonetics Turbo, Air-to-Air Intercooler, Chip.

There's more but work has been crazy busy and once the trans started to gush I stopped worrying about what's been added and started worrying about what they've broken LOL

I hope to hear from the shop today and I'll let ya know what I find out.

Re: Finally got one

Whatever you do don't let them install a generic 700R4/4L60. The SyTy transmission has a unique combination of parts.

Congrats on getting a SyTy.

Let us know if they can't get your Typhoon running correctly. We'll be happy to get her running the way it should. We can build a trans for you too.

Feel free to stop by our shop sometime.

Re: Finally got one

Thanks for the advise, I'm pretty confident the guys that have it now.

Anyone from the northwest may have heard of them

http://http://www.bloodenterprises.com/

I'm thinking when the orginal shop replaced the motor they messed up the front pump or seal maybe convertor???

If I need a trans I'll definitely be asking more questions...

Yeah, Blood Enterprises has been mentioned a few times before. Ask Trey about 'em, or maybe he'll post up his own remarks. BTW, we're trying to organize a get-together when the weather is better: http://www.syty.net/forums/showthread.php?t=87932

Re: Finally got one

Update

Just got a call from Bloods and get this when the orginal owner put the rear mount battery in he never put an engine ground in. The Battery was gounded on the inside only and everything was grounding through the transmission. Over time the Front Pump Bushing coroded and in turn the Covertor started to walk out casuing the leak. They are taking the trans apart to find any other damage so far The front and rear bushings are toast. I asked him to pull the valve body to check for a shift kit and to inspect the clutches while they have it torn apart.

Update

Just got another call total to fix just the bushings $1800 and $2200 to do a complete rebuild with some better internals. :(

Called Melenium Motors the used car dealership I bought it from and reported. They are waiting for a total cost so they can all the owner and relay the info. I'm sure I'll get the "As Is" quote when they hear the price!!

They do have my trade on their website for 3k more than I traded it in for LOL http://www.autobase.com/cgi/info.exe?bc=11250885&dealer=MILLENMO

Damn! Sharp-looking trade-in, hopefully this Ty works out for you in the end. Keep us informed on what parts you may need, this is a great community of helpful people.

Re: Finally got one

Blood definately knows what they are doing when it comes to tuning, but 1) they are rediculously overpriced, 2) they are infamous for going waaaaay over their quote, and 3) they dont do the trans rebuilds in house. They have another shop in that area do it for them. I've spoken to the owner of the trans place about my tranny rebuild and I knew I wouldnt be using him after he assured me "that a stock 700 would handle anything that truck can throw at it"!

I thanked him for his time and left.

Your best bet on a trans rebuild is either GNNW or Strange transmission. Depending what western side of the state your located.....

BTW, congrats on the purchase......

Re: Finally got one

In confident they won't do me wrong I've been friends with the shop manager mark for almost 20 years now lol damn I'm getting old

I'll find out who's doing the work but from what he told me yesterday they torn it down I
n house and none of the parts we talked about were for a stock 700...

any suggestions on a convertor and the internals before they make any orders?

I work less than a block from blood's so I'm gonna stop in tomorrow when they open up.
