Re: First Autocross of 2012

Cool, looking forward to seeing more updates through the season! What gear do you put the tranny in when you run?

I think you'd be more likely to roll any rig in an auto-X than road racing. Even though the speeds are lower the transitions can be much quicker and more violent.

For the most part, you can stay in D if the coarse is short. High speed courses (over 60mph), you'll need OD.

The Sy you can really sling around hard without worry of rolling...whereas the Ty having a shorter wheel base and being more top heavy tends to have some serious body roll. Back at BG Nats, I thought for sure Adam in his red ty was going to flip that thing over at the speeds he was taking into turns. He drove that thing like he hated it.

Check out the pics on the front page of SyTySolo, you can definitely see how much harder the Tys roll and lift more than the Sy

On tight courses I leave mine in 1st to stop it from hunting around for gears and to take advantage of the engine braking. It takes me to about 45 mph, which is (almost) fast enough for the kind of courses we run around here.

I thought the same thing about the body roll in the Ty's when I saw Cam hammering his around the course at the Canadian Nats auto-X a few years ago. It was quick but it was hard on the nerves to watch!

I thought Shelby Cobra was the 2 dr roadster :dunno:
They are. Don't overthink it. It was a 20 car field test-n-tune, non-points event. Classing didn't matter and cars that would ordinarily run in AP or XP or whatever were just running in whatever class had participants. We all could've run in XXX and it wouldn't have mattered.
