Front Axle Heads up. Napa Max Drive CV

Stay Alert to this: Napa Max Drive CV for our trucks will come with 1 of 2 ends on the wheel bearing hub end.

The 1st style will be like the stock one that takes a cotter pin to lock it in place after you torque it to the required 160-200lbs.

The 2nd style will have a new style nut that is a longer by .430 shoulder a reduce Dia. This shoulder has a built in crimp down area that serves as a lock nut.

I found out after finishing the driver side and put the pass side back together. Unfortunate I have the new style on the pass side.:rant:

I have these on my truck, nothing wrong with it, just different. Believe it or not, the nut stays on :lol:

I'm trying to figure out the "problem". Is it that you had to swap the nuts side to side perhaps having to remove the wheel as well, after not noticing the change on the first side you assembled?

Not a problem as I don't feel like taking it apart again. However being the type of man that I am it will bug me because this 1 is not the old school way of having that cotter pin as a safely backup to keep the nut from coming off. The other thing that is different is the retaining nuts is 2 different sizes as well with the old school 1 being smaller. I just putting it out there so other guys can make sure they get what they want when they order replacements :tup:.

I don't know if it's a 1 time use or not. It just wasn't what I expected when I got to that part of reassembly. I was expecting the same as the driver side with the hole for the cotter pin, etc...

Have you ever taken them apart again ? Do you know if it's a 1 time nut ?

well i can assure you this is nothing new and the majority of cars out there use it and they dont come off

I found out that the end of the axle shaft had to be cut off a little to clear the center cap for my Z06 wheels. I don't know if they have to be trimmed on the stock wheels.

Old thread, but I recently installed a Napa Max Drive on my passenger side. I have stock wheels and did not have to trim the axle shaft for the center cap to fit.
