Front splitter

Is anyone here interested in a front splitter option? With scoop option or 2 piece design in conjunction with your current scoop configuration? Preference to aluminum or ABS?
I'm getting ideas right now & working on some options.
Thanks to Tom @ Sportmachines for giving me direction & ideas for this.

Re: Front splitter

Not yet. I'm waiting for my artist friend to help with drawings. I mocked up a 2 piece design last night. I currently have a custom sheet metal lower IC scoop on mine. I dont know if I will keep it or design the new splitter with the scoop in it.

Yes, preferably abs. I just got a rear NASCAR type spoiler designed and quoted and was going to start a similar thread for that

Credit to these guys for their designs.

Adam/SYO237 work in process/prototype:

Re: Front splitter

Correction - Mine.....not Sportmachines. Also, those pics are when I was doing a cardboard mockup.

I custom made mine from scratch and I consider it a prototype. It's a foam core and fiberglass and I included a bottom scoop built in for the A2A CCHE. So far, its faired pretty well to road use. It's been on for Shindig Shindig 2012, Miami and back, and from FL to Bowling Green with a few hundred miles between events. Only issue was having a razor blade jump up off the road and stick into it when going to the last Shindig. Other than that, no issues.

It's also currently underway with being redesigned to sit lower to the ground and introduce ducting for brake cooling. I still have yet to start the side skirts. I do plan to make a rear diffusor too.

If I could get the POS off jackstands, Id take a pic of the finished proto.

Re: Front splitter

I'd be interested, I'm in the market for an intercooler scoop currently anyway. Any pics of this set up on a typhoon? Assuming they would fit for both Sy and Ty's .

Re: Front splitter

Are those side pieces for function at all? It's like ground effects for your ground effects!

My longterm goal is to cover as much of the bottom of the truck as possible. My thoughts are improved airflow under the bottom for better gas mileage. This is all theory of course...otherwise, I just like how it looks to be honest.

The skirt mockups I have made up go all the way to the frame, so the gap between the cladding and frame will be covered by the skirt.

Re: Front splitter

Found some pics of my truck with the finished prototype on it. Like I mentioned, Im redesigning it to sit lower to the ground now....probably 2-3" below the bumper than it sits now.

Re: Front splitter

So aside from looking cool and the scoop for the IC, is there really any performance benefit? These trucks are bricks at best when it comes to cutting through the air so any theories as to the speed needed for the splitter to help?

Typically, my truck would average 17mpg when I had Code59. I did a Miami trip changed nothing and averaged 19mpg with it on. Granted, I know weather, tire psi, driving conditions can affect mpg (especially a measly 2mpg). Not sure if I want to attribute the extra 2mpg to having the splitter....but it was the only thing different on the truck at the time.

In all honestly, unless you are road racing like Adam Auerbach and at constant high speed all the time, having a splitter is going to lean more towards cosmetic than functional. Just my :2cents: To me, it was having something different.

Im putting front brake cooling ducts into my next one, so that will add a bit of functionality for me.

Re: Front splitter

I think getting the gap in between the ground & the front bumper alone should help. I usually run headlight covers very similar to the LSR Syclone that cover that make the whole headlight area flush. Any little bit should help. I dont plan on many 120+ runs. I've always wanted to add removable flush underbody panels to further help with the turbulance of our '4x4s".
Ever taken a look at the new GMC Yukon Hybrids? They have a much lower aggressive front bumper cover to help with mileage.
A good starting point:
