Front Wheel Bearings

My ass. Look at it.
Well, its time to replace the front bearings in the ty...I sound like a dying ceiling fan moving down the road  .

Anyone have luck with the NAPA brand hubs assemblies? They run ~$220 apiece my price and the stealership sells them at $330 apiece wholesale. Plus the NAPA unit has a lifetime warranty. Just looking to save some pesos if I can

Re: Front Wheel Bearings

I have the napa units and they've been treating me well thus far... I got the non ABS though, a lot cheaper and I got rid of it anyway

I was wondering if that would work because I have a extra set of non-ABS ones I wanted to put in the truck to complete the ABS delete, plus they seem a little lighter.

Did you notice any adverse affects from them, basically I noticed they're a different offset then the ABS ones and wondered if it changed your steering if at all?

Rodney,

How many miles are on your Ty? It sure looked like it had low mileage at the Nats. I thought the wheel bearing normally lasted until 100-125K miles.

95,952 miles  I've been wondering if lowering the front has had adverse effects on parts such as the bearings, I wouldnt Imagine it would but hey, it is a SyTy

Damn, I hope the new hubs will look that good for a while! I told the parts guy at NAPA If the finish didnt hold up, Id bring them back every so often for new ones (lifetime warranty) ;) :rotf:

over tightening the nut on the cv will screw the hubs up.
or under tightening it .... the service manual recommends a lot of torque for that nut

If the noise occurs when your on the brakes, its probably brake related. Nasty grinding sound?

Does anyone have a torque # for the spindle nut? Looks like Ive found something to do after work  .

It's 135 ft/lbs IIRC but I will check the manual tonight when I get home

Re: Front Wheel Bearings

Chilton's says to torque to 180 ft/lbs. I've never torqued one, just gunned it on with a standard 1/2 air gun. You are will be hard pressed to get it over 180 ft/lbs.

Just checked the GM manual... factory specification is 181 ft/lbs , 77 ft/lbs for hub to spindle. I remember doing this one... had to do it with the tire on and the truck hard on the ground and the brakes on to get that much torque on it

How bout it?
Re: Front Wheel Bearings

I have NAPA one, that was pulled from a TY. Very mint less that 100 miles on it. Trucked was hit in rear and is getting parted out. I will sell bearing for $175 shipped.

Let me know,

Re: Front Wheel Bearings

FYI guys, the spindle nut is 36mm...had fun finding that one out :) . Wasnt that bad to swap out the hubs, my drivers side was definitely the cause of my woes. 181ft/lb! Damn! I torqued it down as well as I could with a 1/2" breaker bar, gonna nail it with an impact at werk tomorrow
