Fuel pump help

Ok, after changing my cat out the truck was running good. Until today when suddenly the engine just cut out and died. Wouldn't turn over after that. Fuel pressure gauge shows zero and when I turn the ignition on it stays at zero and I don't hear the fuel pump running. Jumping the grey fuel pump wire near the intercooler relay does powed up the fuel pump. I tried switching the fuel pump relay and the ac relay with no success. Also tried jumping the orange and grey wire on the fuel pump relay with no success. Any ideas?

Re: Fuel pump help

Thanks. Fuse was blown. Replaced it with a 20amp I had laying around and it started right up. What do you guys think caused the fuse to blow? I'm leaning towards a fuel pump that's going bad. Do you guys think it could be the oil pressure switch? Anything else?

You'd better install factory amp fuse (10A? I'm not sure) and resolve the issue itself. You can burn your truck!

I had this issue when I blocked fuel return line while reinstalling the tank. FP was sky high, and overloaded pump blew the fuse.

Check your fuel pump wiring, clean all the contacts, etc.

Re: Fuel pump help

A good upgrade for these trucks is the fuel pump hotwire kit available from racetronix. Takes a load off the main fuses of the truck and supplies more voltage to the pump. win/win

If you installed a Walbro rather than a stock type that will blow the factory supplied 10 Amp fuse.

I have a Walbro in my Ty and I also use a 20 Amp in the ECM B.

Static is correct the Racetronix hotwire is beneficial.

Re: Fuel pump help

For example, although it didnt shine in comparison to the Bosch, the Walbro 255 is not a bad pump by any means. If you're not going to make 1000hp all motor or 820hp at 20psi, you just might not need that much fuel pump, and spending more on a fuel pump bigger than what you need would be a waste of money.

Still looks like the Walbro holds up for my needs

Re: Fuel pump help

Walbro 190 / 255 ltr / hr fuel pumps can draw up to 15 to 17 amps at 12V. Fuel pressure of 50 PSI, can draw as much as 9.3 amps at 12V and the 10 amp fuse will blow. The Racetronix plug and play wiring harness includes a 40 amp weatherproof relay and will prevent the higher fuel pump load from blowing 10 amp fuses and possible chassis wiring damage. .

Re: Fuel pump help

I only installed the 20 amp fuse cause that's what I had laying around. I'm pretty sure the fuel pump in my truck right now is a stick one, but I'm not 100% sure since I bought it used. I have a walbro unit that I plan on replacing the current pump with this weekend. Do you guys think the current fuel pump is going bad and that caused it to draw more than 10 amps and blow the fuse?

Thanks for everyone's help.

Re: Fuel pump help

Doubtful that the pump is going bad. I think you're more likely to see decreased fuel pressure or not holding pressure over a few days (bad check valve, this is how mine failed.). I thought mine was an original fuel pump until I dropped the tank and found it was an older Walbro. You probably wont know if its a stocker until you look inside. Also you could have a bad connection. The current from the fuel pump can cause the plugs to melt causing a buildup of resistance and then a blown fuse.

Excellent reccomendation... highly suggested!
