Gas mileage I got, if interested

Yesterday I went to San Antiono (Roughly 200 miles one way) and checked the gas mileage, now I do have P-245/40/18 tires so I really don't know how far the the speedo is off, but here are the results
On the the way up driving 74 mph then , the last 80 mile I followed a Excursion running 80-90 mph . Filled up 13.1 mpg :(
On the way back ,set the cruise at 67 mph then once I hit Houston ,set the cruise on 64 mph filled up the next morning 18.4 mpg :)
I haven't had the truck long so I thought I share my experience.

You have noticed, like I did, that if you keep the truck below 70MPH you get better MPG.

I had a job where I drove 33 miles one way just to get there (used West Belt Way 8). I found that I got the best MPG if I didn't use the cruse and maximized my vacuum during acceleration. Yes, maximize vacuum during acceleration is difficult when you don't want to be a traffic hazard but work on it.

The best I got was 18.7MPG running stock engine and stock size tires. The MPG dropped down to 18.2 using cruse because cruse doesn't care about maximizing vacuum. However, cruse is more comfortable on long drives. I guess you pay more for comfort.

One last thing. I got better gas mileage when using cheep gas (my wife put it in for me). I couldn’t go into boost because of the knock so I kept my foot out of it. But not much fun!

Just what I found if you are interested.

I can recall getting low 20s on trips in my Ty. Speed was most likely between 65-70.

Your tire height is close to stock (within 0.1"), so it doens't affect your spedo (less than 1%). The best I was able to get out of my Syclone is 19.8mpg.

I got 23 on my trip to Nashville and back and 21-22 going to homecoming and back (65-70 mph). Stock with pitbull chip and K&N air filter. I probably get 8-9 in town with the way I drive

I glad you told me this I wasn't sure if the speedo was right

Suggestion. Find a radar cop and ask him if he will check your speed for you. He will have you do a pass (at the speed limit). Then he will tell you what his radar regestered. We do it all of the time.

Or just get/borrow a GPS from someone. They are very accurate once you get to a constant speed.

What is easer to find? A GPS that someone will loan you or a radar cop. With me, it has always been the cop. Might as well use them as an asset.

That's about exactly what I get when I drive down to Portland/Vancouver cruising at 75. It drops about a one mpg when I cruised at 80.

You'll find when your driving a vehicle that has poor wind resistance, how fast you drive has a much greater effect on your economy. For example, when I drive my Fiero, the mileage I get between 55 and 110 is only like 1 or 2 mpg. I've taken it on many long trips between those speeds. Everytime, I clock anywhere from 26-28 mpg regardless of what speed I'm driving.
