Re: Getting ready to drive my Ty off hwy 101!!!!!!

pull the vacum line off of your fuel pressure regulator. the little silver thing on the back of your fuel rail on the passanger side, see if you smell fuel in it. if you do replace your regulator. if you replaced your iac there is a certain procedure to reset it to zero so the ecm has a zero baseline. if the cap is gone off your idle adjustment screw someone has messed w/ it and it was probably hiding another problem. i used a scantool called a mindreader my dad has at our car store and was able to read all the data streams from the ecm. it cost him 600 dollars. you might want to buy a cheapie laptop and a cable to run data master, shouldn't cost a lot. you migh wanna get your wife the bimmer, i wouldn't let my wife daily drive a ty or sy, atleast not till i had it for awhile and went through. why don't you see if there is a board member close enough to come give you a hand, but if you do blow it up and part it out i'll call dibs on the console hinge and passenger rear corner cladding if they're good.

Another thing is I tried the paper clip thing.I didn't see any numbers though.Check engine light just flashes no numbers.Am I doing something wrong fellas?TIA.... :squint:

You won't SEE numbers... you have to count the times the CHECK ENGINE light flashes.. first time it'll flash once... then two times in a row = a number 12 code which is normal for the first time.. I think it repeats each code three times ... then if there are any error codes stored it'll flash them after the 12 has been flashed 2 or three times what ever it is.

So if your getting a code 42, it'll flash four times back to back, pause then flash twice back to back, pause then start over.

Wow, I thought everyone knew about flash diagnostics. Basically you want to count the flashes. You will get a certain number of flashes, then a short pause, then another set of flashes, then a long pause. So code 12 would be one flash, a short pause, two pauses, then a long pause, and then it would move onto the next code.

I think you meant a flash, a short pause, two FLASHES, then a long pause.

Wow I feel dumb!Ok I got ah code 12 but nothing else.Idle is set right know.I got up this morning look at the fuel press gauge while hitting the throttle. This is what happens(Fuel pressure goes up car boogs out.)I'am going to change fuel filter&Afpr.A jimmy smelled the fpr vac line and it smells a little like gas.

Just curious, but what part of the diagnostic trouble tree were you following when you decided to pull off a live coil wire?
LMAO!!! Reminds me of the time I grabbed the plug wire on my mower while I was pulling the cord. :rotf:

Is there a hand held scan tool I can buy?

Go to Autozone, ask to rent their scanner. You'll have to plunk down your CC to which they'll charge your account ~$200. When you return it they'll credit your CC the amount charged.

Fuel pressure goes up by how much? If the problem is your regulator removing the vac. line and going for a test drive will verify this.
Ok, so the vac line smelled like fuel, but once you remove the line you've removed the over-fuelling issue. If removing the line made no difference in the way it accelerated then the regulator isn't your problem. It's probably bad if the line smelled like fuel, but that's not the issue.
Fuel filter won't fix it either. If your fuel pressure climbed when you accelerated then you don't have a restricted filter.

there's you're problem or one of the change it out and go for it. the stock regulator isn't adjustable, so if you have an adjustable it's been changed

Re: Getting ready to drive my Ty off hwy 101!!!!!!

Ok here'e what's going on know.Turned the car on and let it run after checking for codes again. No codes! So I pulled the vacuum off the FPR and the car started running rough.Put it back on and went for a test drive.Ty stalled before 1000rpm on the tach, smooth out after that. Now I have the car in (Drive.)Left the stop sign gone, spooled all the way up!Everything good, transmission hit second good. For some reason the car seem like it was over boosting.Stock boost gauge went all the way up&seemed like it was staying there.Went home and temp gauge was at half.Man WTF is going on.Is the FPR Gone....?My car temp stays at quater mark!!!

Did you plug the vacuum line after you removed it?

Re: Getting ready to drive my Ty off hwy 101!!!!!!

Pull the vac. line. Plug it and go for a drive. Pulling the vac. line to your FPR will increase your fuel pressure by about 8-9 PSI @ idle so it might idle a little rough but should smooth out within 10 seconds or so as the ECM compensates for the extra fuel being delivered. Under normal driving conditions it should run normally with the vac. line off, except for maybe a rough idle.
Ignore the factory boost gauge, they're unreliable.
Is your FPR adjustable? What pressures are you running?

Yeah pull the vac line off, that way if the diaphragm is broken,it will dump more raw fuel into the crankcase.

You said the line smells like gas. That is your problem.

Yeah I already did, after I drained 5 gallons of gas/oil out of the crankcase when the engine hydrolocked. New FPR and 24 volts it finally started back up.

Re: Getting ready to drive my Ty off hwy 101!!!!!!

How is a broken diaphragm gonna dump fuel into the crankcase? If the diaphragm is ruptured/broken then it's going to spew out the fitting where the vac line connects. That's whay the vac line smelled in the first place.
I don't see the connection between the crankcase filling with fuel and a ruptured diaphragm with the vac line removed.
Although, as I stated before I don't think the FPR is his problem. A problem, yes (because of the gas smell) but not THE problem

Re: Getting ready to drive my Ty off hwy 101!!!!!!

When I was talking about the boost gauge. What happen was it spooled all the way up till the car start knocking.I had to get off the gas.My car usally hits it's max boost & then comes down. But not that time.It also made the temp go up!

Called the dummy at autozone. And he can't seem to find a fpr for my car he says.Where can I pick up one today? :squint:

Okay then, either way you are talking about raw fuel spewing.Where would you rather have it,filling up the crankcase or spraying on the (hot) motor?

I KNOW from experience that a broken FPR will dump fuel into the crankcase. Why? I dunno but fuel in the vac line tells us all we need to know.

You're right, it will fill the crankcase with the vac line connected. The vac. line will pull the fuel right out of the regulator if the diaphragm is ruptured and feed it directly into the intake, then into the cylinders, past the rings and into the crankcase.
